Maybe you are ranking for keywords that people aren't searching for. Or maybe they don't like your snippet. Or you are seeing personalised results and you actually rank a lot lower.

Or perhaps your site is untrustworthy. Loads of reasons why.

Well personal I look at "homestay english/ learn english in england /or uk /live"

And still don't have a clue what you do or what service you provide so perhaps this is a case where you have failed to identify the way people find service like yours.

It's not uncommon.

Hold On ! I've had a reverlation, do you mean you go to people home and teach them English ? if so the surely the terms you target should be more like "Learn English From Home" "Teach At Home" or whatever. I can't see anyone I know using the term Homestay and certainly if they struggle in english you should be translating these terms also.

Well visits to your site will use the terms but it's the people using other terms you seem to need unless it's a very small market. Do you get more success on adwords I wonder ?

In adwords you can direct to more words and then if your top earning word is still homestay then I don't see what more you can do. Perhaps offline is better for your market.

Yes but that's on a trickle of visitors. Which is what you were asking about.

Your SEO company is a waste of money as is the people you are paying to tweak the site. Do some keyword research and you will discover a whole new set of higher converting keywords.

For the best keywords or to find out how many monthly searches you can expect for your existing keywords use Google's Keyword Tool. Sometimes being on the first page of Google is not enough, you might want to consider other means of getting your message out there like article submissions, press releases or even video.

The thing about organic SEO is that it takes time to give results. But, that said, 6 months is good enough time to start seeing some results. If you are paying for SEO and still not getting any visits, then maybe its time for you to a) either kick out that SEO company you are paying b) wait for the results to happen.

Do not select keywords which have low traffic. By this I mean, keywords which get 500 searches in a month or less. However, the best practice to get brownie points in SEO is to a) write informative and engaging content related to your business and b) build inbound links to your website

Informative and engaging content will definitely help you in getting more webpages on your website, which will ultimately help you in getting more indexed webpages on Google and other search engines. The inbound links on high authority sites (with more than 4 PR ranking) will help the search engines to identify that you are a site worth trusting.

Again, do remember to ask yourself, "What do I really want my website to do?"

Get on Pay Per Click with a test campaign, find out how many visitors it actually takes to get a enquiry or booking and work from there.

Most SEO companies aren't sure themselves if they can generate you ROI, although they are happy to get you page 1. A some what mis-belief that a page one ranking will rocket any business.

I personally have never heard of these keywords.

Try the new google adwords keyword tool, it a bit better than the old one but should give you plenty of help in choosing your keywords.

It also gives you a good indication of the traffic levels that are searching for it.

By default, the keyword tool will be set to 'broad' in its settings. Change this to 'exact match' to get a much more accurate result.

Your problem is whoever is doing your SEO is inept unless you have been overriding their advice. There are two keyword phrases you should be using and any competent SEO would have spotted them a mile off. I am not going to put them on here because forum posts appear in G ( always keep your keywords to yourself and never post them on a forum).
I suggest you either do some more research yourself or use the services of one of the SEO's looking for work here, after carrying out due diligence of course.

You may be looking at your personal results when logged into google. Change your search settings and log out. Install Google analytics and webmaster tools to review keywords, traffic and where visitors are coming from.
If you would like, PM me and I will provide a free ranking report for your current keywords and your website and you can see if this tallys with what you are seeing.

As you've already been told, it's probably the keywords that are the main problem. However, if the people you're paying are any good (and you are on the first page after all), then without seeing your site there could well be problems with the site itself. People may be coming to your site, but you're not doing enough to convince them to use your service.

You might need to look at the site design and find a better way of getting more paying customers. If nothing else, you should be providing something that will encourage your visitors to come back, rather than just go away and forget about you.

I don't know what your site looks like so I can only suggest that you have a way of capturing your visitor's email address, by offering some free advice or report linked to your service. Get them onto an autoresponder list and then keep them informed of developments etc...

There are probably a number of things you can do to the site to make it more user friendly and profitable.

Forgive me if this is a stupid thing to say, I have been working all day so batteries are running low.

If I was a french student looking to stay in the UK to learn english, I would most likely search google.fr, I wouldn't change my search to .co.uk and then start looking.

If they type English into google.fr they would find uk websites anyway. But you're right in the sense that they don't speak the lingo so will most likely type French and not English. Maybe the op needs to create a French subfolder :D

I would say do market research along side your SEO. Find out who you are actually targeting, where and why.

One of the last campaigns I done, were set to target 5 different group sets of people all for one product if that gives you any ideas.

I'll pm you when i am on the front page, so you can bow down and eat those words :D

I think they were implying there are thousands of money making markets out there, almost non-exsistant with any real takers.

No, but it helps if you have experience of promoting more than the site you are involved in; which is of course is where professionals come in.
I'm sure that she could find the keyword phrases herself if she put in the time and research which is what I suggested she do or alternatively use a professional SEO.
I always turn down work of a dubious nature like loans, payday or otherwise but I know it's very competitive, so it's good to see that you are putting what you have learned to use, even if with a little bit of luck that particular sector will one day be recognised for the sordid business it is and outlawed.

A few things to think about:

1. I would not trust the google keyword tool to provide any sort of real assessment of the search volume of the keywords you're targeting. Experience suggests that the real keyword volume is often less than half suggested by the keyword tool.
2. If you want an accurate assessment of real search volume, you might want to consider setting up a google adwords campaign using a range of exact match keywords, and simply assessing the impression count across different markets. This will give you a much better view on the 'real' search volume delivered by Google.
3. Are the terms you're targeting 'commercial' terms that someone looking to make a buying decision is likely to use....or are they the sort of terms that are more 'research' focused.
4. If you've got commercially focused traffic in volume, but still not seeing leads or conversions, I would take a close look at your site from the perspective of your typical conversion factors such as as your call to actions, loading time, important information being above the fold, engagement factors, general professionalism of the site etc.

Hope that helps, and best of luck with getting business moving for you.
