Getting users on our website

Dawid Kubicius

How do I promote my website? Our startup is having a hard time coming up with new users and the best way to get them is to direct them to our website, which has our product and its demo. So how should I go about getting people to visit the website, let alone to stay there? Social media, forums? We tried a Product Hunt campaign but that didn't do much. I would be grateful for any feedback

Yes we have had the same problems. Done around €1,000 a year when I expected double that if not more.
Also getting customers from most unexpected places like Sweden, France and Greece when I was working on Spain and England.
From my research you need to be doing 2-3 posts a day to social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram and ads.

I think David has 8 different on Product Hunt ( including that one _) so it is a little unfair to assume that the issue is related to MeetingNPS.

The answers have been given. Determine where your target customers do their research ( aka hang out ) and market on that medium.

I'm gonna give the same advice I always give: blogs.

Say you want to market the meeting software mentioned above, a relevant, keyword-heavy article that helps people such as 'how to make a good presentation' or 'how to get the most out of meetings' would be perfect.

I've just been looking at some of our key figures for a quarterly presentation I had to put together, and it's amazing seeing, not just the raw numbers that articles bring in, but also how many of those people go on to start a trial, book a meeting or get in touch via our webchat (our 3 big KPIs).

As long as you write good, helpful content, you will get there. It's worth remembering, however, two things: it takes an average of 3 months for a published article to start getting noticed; and not every article will be a winner.

It's also important to put in some good tracking. We have some articles that pull in crazy numbers, but have very low conversion rates, whereas some brings in relatively low traffic, but has a huge rate of read-to-KPI. We wouldn't have known that if we hadn't beefed up our tracking this year.

Doesn't have to be a blog. It's the content google likes, doesn't matter how it's published.

You're not wrong, ofcourse. However, despite my lack of knowledge on, say, video content, I can't imagine that it provides the same SEO benefits, right?

We've done a bit of video, a bit of social, etc., etc... And while it all has its uses, I think in terms of driving more traffic, written content is best because of keywords. Having an article that appears on the first page for a Google Search is a great way to bring people in.

There are other options, of course. For example, take how some plumbers put 'how to' videos on Youtube, because people want to see how to fix a leaky tap. They then rely on people going from that video to their website. It's a solid system for certain companies, no doubt about it.

Could you post a link to your website?

Totally depends on your market/audience and where they search or come across solutions.

Many younger customers don't Google search, as they don't want to read anything, their go to will be YouTube searches. That's a a different ball game to websites and has its own SEO best practice.

Again, paid marketing campaigns for some products on Instagram and TikTok will far outperform a similar or identical campaign on Facebook, as it's all about the demographic of the target customer audience.

However in this case I'm not sure there is any sort of audience:

Well that's a very different problem!!!!

If there's no market, then don't do the work. It's why we always recommend product/service and customer/market research before building websites or creating products and certainly before you do any marketing...

I've just realised that a major point of difference here is that I'm referring to B2B, rather than to B2C.

Different campaigns will work differently for different companies but I'm in full agreement that, for a lot of B2C, social media content is king. There are products where written articles just wouldn't work at all, and some in which a mix may be best.

If you were starting up a new youth fashion brand, for instance, you would absolutely focus your time and effort into Instagram and TikTok content. Influencers, product shots, model shots, maybe some inspiring quotes and lifestyle imagery. In this case, written articles would be less apt (although articles like 'Hot looks for Summer 2021' might be a small part of your strategy)

However, if you had a business timekeeping tool, for instance, you may find that people aren't as interested in your social media content as the imagery simply isn't exciting enough. You may have to focus on articles that solve people's problems. (Although companies like Mailchimp work very hard to build a personality and brand that makes mass-emails fun and exciting and social-media friendly)
