Getting a product made in China?

Hi Chaps and Chapessess

II have 8 small plastic components I'd like to be produced - injected moulding in volume. I'm looking on Alibaba at companies from China. Anyone had any experience/advice of having a product made in China

Regards

The best process to follow is this:

    1. Contact 3 - 6 suppliers

    2. Get confirmed quotes, mould costs, full specifications & lead times.

    3. Decide which is best for you.

    4. Get an NNN agreement with the factory you decide to use and get a solicitor involved (If it's a new and unique model).

Generally for working with a China factory, you will need large volume orders, but the price will be cheaper.

If it's 'small' orders you're looking for, then look closer to home, but follow the 4 points above.

It's a nightmare, there are a few things that make it so and it's best to use an agent to help you if you have the funds.

    1. Language barriers are terrible, so communication can be very difficult and misunderstandings are common.
    2. I had numerous issues with samples from various factories they were always terrible, expensive and photos were taken in ways to hide flaws prior to shipping.
    3. I paid 1 business to produce some items and they vanished without a trace, I had to use paypal to recover the money. (Never use direct transfers with new suppliers)

At the same time, I've also had some great experience with having products produced in china.
They were helpful, provided insight and knowledge, created renders and sent some beautiful samples before production.

It's very hit and miss, but I'd highly recommend an agent if possible.

Remember also most on alibaba are agents not factories - for this kind of product it's vital you talk to the factory direct. Make sure you know who you are really dealing with (not who they say they are). It's always a good idea to go and visit the factory and see for yourself before parting with any money. If you dont speak fluent Chinese take an independent translator with you (don't rely on one supplied by the factory).
