General SEO tips/am i wasting time

Hi all,

Recently got my website up & running and trying to tackle some seo on my own, heres what im doing at the moment;

meta title/keywords/description for every page/cat/sub cat
written content with keyword links back to page

i was then going to start doing some articles with deep links to my site and getting them out on the web, mainly using blog and article sites, not sure if those sites carry any cred as far as google is concerned?

that is mainly all i have planned for so far. I have thought of doing a review/advice section on my website with links back to relevent pages using keywords i want that page to rank for?

any advice is greatly appreciated, clearly i am a complete novice! if you need any more info let me know, cheers!

Yes, most of the time you will be. I wouldn't bother with article sites tbh - they have generally been blasted into oblivion. If you can get relevant blogs to use your articles exclusively then that's a plus but you'll probably find it hard going.

The hardest part is getting initial traction - what happens after that is partly how good your site is, pure luck or how big your budget is. It's getting harder and it will continue to be so.

There is a useful video discussing the impact of google's panda updates and how it changes the field for seo. You'd do well to watch it and understand what he's saying. In short - what worked a year ago will probably work against you now.

Article sites may not carry the value they once had but there is no definite answer here and a few deep links with good anchor text from article sites will help you get your pages indexed / ranked.
