FreeAgent/Intuit Quick Books/SAGE One

[APOS Recruitment]

Hi,

Couldn't find any recent threads on this. Has anyone used all/any of the above three packages.
Is there one you would recommend over the other at all?
Any problems with any of them?

Free agent very good for contractors/ freelancers and some of my clients use this.

This is UK based so if you are VAT registered or even on FRS VAT it will pick up the rates easier

Quick books is more american based, it does work, but i am not a fan in terms of it being user friendly

Sage do not like at all, too expensive, out dated and not very good support.

There are others like Xero, Quickfile, accounts portal and clear books plus many others which i am sure people will recommend.

If you have an accountant why not see what they recommend?

Bear in mind that Sage One (as referred to in the title of the post) is a completely different piece of software to the desktop based versions in both pricing and looks/functionality.

True as that may be i just do not like Sage compared to other accountancy software and i was trained on this as a young junior accountant back in the day.

Some do like it some don't just the way of the world as they say

I must admit most of my experience with Accounting systems comes from SAGE 50/100/200 and 500. With a brief stint on SUN and JD Edwards.
The three mentioned in the thread title were ones that were part of my bank set up. I immediately thought of using SAGE One due to my previous use. So thanks for pointing out it is different.

I'll have a look at that thread Jeremiah and see. May as well have a look as they are free.

No problem Rob have a look and see which works best for you and your business and if you have an accountant they can give you some good advice too.

Yes what is the problem with not liking Sage? as i have used it for many years and i have found better accountancy software that i use and like many others who post on here regularly some like sage and some don't.

I'm afraid many of us would yes. I think Sage has fallen that far behind and damaged its reputation within the industry that many of us simply aren't prepared to give it another shot any more.

Of the big practices I know that still use it, a large majority want to get away but just can't face the upheaval. The only small businesses I know that use it have either a) been given it for free b) have been told it's what they need to use by their rather ageing accountant or c) are too scared to take steps outside what they're used to.

Obviously that's just my humble opinion but it's an honest one.

I just think it a bit strange to dismiss Sage One simply because it comes from Sage when it is a completely new piece of software that shares nothing at all with the previous, desktop based software, other than the name of the company that produces it...

As Kevin says and i repeat it is not for me and why not call it a different name with no association to Sage which does have a stigma in the accountancy world!

Unfortunately the "Sage" brand is tarnished and will probably never recover. It's not just the product itself, I'm sure we all have painful experiences of their pathetic attempt at customer service, their shark-like business practices, expensive software support, etc. Sage One may well be a brilliant package, but it's still from the same people. I really don't understand why they didn't roll it out under a different name, perhaps a more respected name from their stable such as TAS - I assume they either thought the "Sage" name would give it more clout or perhaps they just don't realise what a bad name they have.

As I understand it, they are 'globalising' the product names so, in every market they operate in, the software will branded as Sage. Sage One for example, is available in multiple marketplaces all with the same name.

I have used all of them and in my personal capacity I would suggest you to use Quickbook (Without thinking Twice ) ... I have used these accounts mainly for advanced bookkeeping .... Freeagent and Sage one are good but not as good as Quickbook is ...
