For that case,I think first you should keep the proves and then continue to contact that supplier to require refund or exchange the right shipment.it's on their responsibility.if they can't cooperate well, then it's best for you to ask Chinese Lawyer for help.
And you should open that supplier's company name on the net to let all know they are so bad

BAD SUPPLIER FROM CHINA

Please help/advice

We are a small business and in order to extend our product line we imported two beds from China to test the market.
First the supplier sent the shipment at the wrong port and worst the product with the wrong specification. It cost us lot off money as we have to pay the duty ,taxes , handling charges and the transport.
Now we have the products we do not need , the supplier is very uncoprative and refuses to replay and accept any resposabilities. We would like the supplier either to refund the cost or to replace the items

Is there any organistion who can help us or put some pressure on the supplier.

Any help/advice

Thanks
Ziya

If you'r afraid of your goods,u'd better to find the QC in Uk that has agent in China.
Before I cooperated with a turks, after we complete the production of shipment and notify her,and she will ask her QC agent in China to check whether goods are good or not.

Hi, I am trying to import a one off consignment from China. I have bought a hair and beauty business and I want to put all new equipment in. The prices in the UK are crazy so I want to import my own stuff as an end user, to Liverpool Docks. I have found a company on Albiba, the order comes to about $4,500usd. So as you can see its not a huge amount. I am concerned as I have read, to be aware of Albiba? why? Is having an agent and paying duty plus all the hassle of not "trusting" a company, going to be worth it in the end? I am not normaly like this and just steam on ahead when I have an idea.

your worries about alibaba,i can understand that, here in China, we only need pay USD3046 to them, then they authorize us to be one certificated supplier, no matter what's the facotory or trading company it is? what's the sales natures? pay to them then you are cerficated supplier, that means if you really want to find one reliable supllier, you have to brush your eyes, but most of them are reliable ones

Language problem is great in China. Most of them don't understand english and many even have their sites in chinese, which is a great drawback for the foreigners. Having a native in that region to help you would be a great advantage.

Did you find the supplier from Albiba or Alibaba? I've seen some posts below referring your post with Alibaba. Also could you please tell us the site of that supplier from where you are procuring your consignment?

What kind of assistance do you need Mark? Although I'm not a Brit, perhaps I could help out in some way.

if you choose alibaba to buy, you can trust the seller, but many buyers told their unhappy shopping experience buying chinese items, so you may check the supplier's
feedback or comments carefully, but i believe you can find your business partner in china.

It's not so simple. Scammers are everywhere, even on Alibaba. There are many ways they can fool their buyers. Even Gold suppliers and verified suppliers can be cheaters. When I discuss Alibaba with my clients I always suggest caution (just like anywhere else) and only deal with companies who have been Gold suppliers for more than 1, even more than 2 years.

Agents such are these are normally very helpful and can cut costs in most cases because more times than enough they can get the quickiest routes and have a rapport with most transport companies. But for security reason you have to make sure they have either BIFA or FIATA associations if within UK or for other countries their registered associations.

If there is anything Magill Freight can help you with, please contact us for a quote 02890200877. No parcel to small or too big for our World-wide Shipping/Trailer/Air programmes

Many people find China’s wholesale prices very attractive. Your business can benefit from importing products from China. Even with the cost of shipping, prices that are more competitive will improve your profit margins. Learn the laws that apply, locate a reliable supplier or broker, and implement your strategy for wholesale imports from China.

Personally when I search for companies from business directories, I go through the websites of the companies I shortlist, then interact through email pr phone and then decide whether to go ahead or not.

It is hard finding decent suppliers at alibaba and if you get unlucky you will get scammed. Remember to do alot of research into potential suppliers. Use resources like google.com and tradesparency.com.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for bringing this feed to our attention.

We’d like to reassure you that at Alibaba, we’re always working hard to tackle unfair practices on our marketplace. We’ve developed a number of policies and procedures to tackle fraud, and systems of authentication and verification, including our Gold Supplier membership scheme.

Of course, It’s very important to conduct due diligence before you make an order with a new supplier. Hiring a local inspection is a solution. We understand that it will incur extra costs but this can ensure that you are happy with the quality of the products you received. The other suggestion is to order the sample first before you make bulk purchasing.

We recently launched our Product Inspection Service, which means you can find a local inspection agency to check out the products for you before you make the order. We currently have an offer where Inspection Services are just $1, however this does end tomorrow. Find out more about the service here: http://bit.ly/K66SCi

You can read more about Safe Trading on Alibaba in this section of our website: http://bit.ly/pbTdkq

We hope this helps.

Kind regards and happy trading,

The Alibaba.com UK Team

Great answer alibaba team. $1 per inspection, wow. looks like value for money. maybe you can inspect some orders for me. however, i would be suprised if these inspections are carried out to western standards by western inspectors.
think i will keep to inspecting my own orders thanks.

I have been scammed just once, when I purchased some products, that with hindsight, were too good to be true. Alibaba were unable to do anything and the $800 I spent on two samples was lost. Many of the large trading districts have what we'd call starter units - which are just an office in a big building, and I dealt with one of these who got money in, then did a runner - and that was that. I've found it quite common amongst the decent firms I deal with to not actually have stock, but to use products available within the building from other 'firms' for their photos - then when you order, they source the products from their own small business community. My products are quite technical, so it's common for them to not know anything about them at all, because they build them from kits. This makes it difficult to tell good from bad, when many are really sort of agents, not businesses as we know them.

This is Elaine from Scandinavian Services Limited.

We are flexible and will assist customers with the services they request.
If you want to visit China to look at some heavy machines, enjoy the very good and cheap food and then go to the country side and live with a poor rice farming family we will arrange it for you. Let us know your needs and we will do our best to assist you.
Our most popular services are:
  1. Product search – you ask for e.g. a 30hp marine diesel engine with a 2:1 gearbox and we find it for you.
  2. Product supply – you order a product that we have previously supplied (or found for you).
  3. Sourcing – we assist you in engaging suppliers of goods and services
  4. Factory visits – you want to buy this expensive machine but would like to visit the factory to have a look before confirming order.
  5. Assisted purchase – you know what you want and let us purchase it for you and handle shipment to you.
  6. Personal shopper – you either let us shop for you according to your instructions or you come to visit china and we have someone English speaking person help you around.
  7. Visa support – we can send you invitation letter which in some countries will help you get a Visa to enter China.

Hi Dawn

The importation into the UK is relatively straightforward, as you suggest, your problem lies in the lack of trust with your supplier.

Fortunately, I know all of my Asian partners from the past, so have never found myself to be in your situation. However, if I were to be looking at spending that kind of money with a stranger off Alibaba, I would be very cautious. In this situation, I would, without doubt, appoint a QC agent who is based in the country of origin. For a relatively small amount, (under $US500 I guess,) your agent will go into the factory and ensure that the goods are as described. These agents act like Rottweilers on your behalf to ensure that the goods are OK. As part of the sales contract, you can stipulate that you will only pay the invoice upon receipt of a satisfactory QC report. Send me a PM if you want any more information or the name of a good contact.

Dear Mister B

I'll keep on telling the same things as long as people do not pay attention to their financial security:

Don't risk your money paying cash up-fronts if you don't know your Chinese supplier face to face, even for 'soft probe'

1. Use letter of credit form of payment or escrow accounting
2. Always buy due diligence background check
3. Ask the export lawyer to inspect the draft of the contract
4. If the deal is serious get the export insurance, export guarantee, performance bond or any other insurance issue from your supplier.
5. Ask your supplier for recommendation letters from their buyers and bank reference letter from the bank they work with.

If you have any questions or need practical assistance you are welcome to PM us. We provide the whole circle of the services listed above.
