Hi everyone, hope you had a good bank hol :smile:

I'm wondering if any of you may have a spare moment to give me some constructive critisicm on my new site... jrbgadgets.co.uk



I seem to come out well on msn but not google, i've heard there can be a 2 year delay while you get fully indexed, ive submitted a sitemap etc.

opinions appreciated

It's not like me to comment on design ...

but ...

(1) If you're selling clothes, I'd drop those 2 "office" pics. Thye don't tie in with what you're selling

(2) That w3c icon doesn't make sense in the context of a site that's selling clothes.

(3) Personally, I think the grumpy looking models are off-putting.

Away from "design" (in the arty sense), to copy and functionality:

(1) "about us" is pretty much the same as the home page, I'd get rid of this duplication, it's not going to help your sales.

(2) the copy on the home page is a bit all over the place. It's talking to different categories of people at the same time. If I was looking for clothes, I'd be wondering about the ebay comment.

(3) I don't like the "read full article" link. It just takes the reader to the support page. There's no article there.

(4) the word "gadgets" in the url doesn't tie in with the homepage. I expected electronics etc.

thanks steve, ill drop those 2 images, i didnt have any before, but on another forum they said i needed some in, i personally don't like them either - i'll take them off. the w3c i was told to tidy up to help the spidering, i thought i should include a link to the validator i'll remove it as well if you think it doesn't fit in.

as for the domain, wholesale-designer-clothes.co.uk is the domain that points to jrbgadets im settin another hostin account up at the mo,

i'll also change the read full article to something more suitable and work on the about us, thanks again

Also - paypal - nochex - I though you were a business site? - Site looks OK though.
I'm not sure you can use eBay prictures in your own site - check the eBay T&C.

BTW - if you want your site to be found on Google during the sandbox list it on webit of the shoppers bible (as well as other sites) as we push traffic through to new sites.

ive made a few changes...

i haven't had chance to reword the about-us yet, but have removed the w3c validation image, changed the royalty free imagery, renamed the read article link, and altered the copy on the homepage

I am no professional but i do agree with some of the previous comments made.
One other main comment I would make when I first visited is:

The site does not come over as a shop until you enter the products page. I would have more information showing. e.g Paypal/Nochex signs visible on homepage, some small wording about secure shopping etc.
Just my opinion hopefully this helps.

Hi

I am no SEO specialist but living with one who eats, sleeps and dreams SEO a few things have rubbed off.

Just a few points to help you on your way:-

1. Ensure that each of your pages has unique meta content relevant to the page content. The title for each page needs to be individual, also your description and keywords. And keep them short and sweet, no more that 14 words for your description and about 6 keywords or key phrases

2. Ensure that there is a good repetition of those keywords/phrases in the content on the page, just enough but not too much, go for 3% to 6% but hard to be precise as this depends on the total number of words on page

3. On your home page you have a duplicate set of meta tags, you need to have only one and make sure they are at the top of the code right under the head tag

4. Robots by default index and follow links unless instructed otherwise. Removing the surplus code you have in the meta area of your pages relating to things like Author, ratings, publisher, distribution, revisit-after, can all go with detriment

5. You need more word content on your pages, and I agree with Steve, it needs to be individual and unique to each page and should include a good selection of your keywords/phrases, see 2 above

6. You have a sitemap, but linking to it from the home page would be helpful.

Just a few things to help you on your way, good luck, and if you need anymore pointers just shout.

thanks rusty, ill work on those tonight. he only query i have with my meta tags is that as i use a template in dreamweaver the template code is duplicated in a lot of the pages, in eed to check how i can get round this. thanks for your help, i'll work on the wordings tonight

hey guys i've added some payment icons do they look alright? ive been able to delete the meta tag duplication i was worried previously about taking them out but ive done this and im working on different ones for each page.

is it essential to have different keywords for each page? ive seen several well ranked sites having the same keywords on each page just different meta description.
