Does anyone use/understand Facebook paid ads?

I've had an ad running for 5 days now and Facebook ad centre says I've had 1897 clicks on the link in the ad.

"The number of clicks on links within the ad that led to advertiser-specified destinations, on or off Meta technologies."

The ad has just one link gowing to one particular page on our website but when I look at Google analytics its telling me that page has had just 182 clicks.

I'm a bit confused.

That is a massive difference, too massive to justify my explanation but I'll give an explanation anyway why the numbers will never match.

Google Analytics relies on the visitors browser to both accept cookies to track, and also allow to run and have sufficient time to run the Google JavaScript to log the visit on their systems. So the landing page needs a few seconds to load and render for a visit to log, and the visitor needs to accept the cookies.

Facebook systems don't rely on any of those to function as they control the ad, so their system will log a click whether the person accepts cookies or not and will log the click before the person even sees your landing page. So generally the Facebook report is more reliable (subject to them stripping out mis-clicks and bots).

However, as I said at the start, that is a massive difference far higher than I'd expect to see.

Also consider iPhones and many browsers block tracking by default. The numbers you see in analytics consoles is usually a fraction of the true figure.

What’s more important is the number of sales those 1900 clicks generated. What many do is have two landing pages: one for FB visitors and another for everyone else. It means you can properly measure the success of the campaign.

Both numbers won't be super accurate unfortunately, what you want to track is sign ups, leads, sales, calls etc as these are the metrics that make you money.
