Hi all,

I'm from a sales background and looking to start my own marketing company to keep me busy at the weekends.

One idea i'm considering would be local businesses would use myself to generate leads, through face to face contact with potential clients (think gazebo in the high street with pop up banners, leaflets etc)

With everyone trying online advertising these days it potentially could be a way for local businesses to stand out.

So, my questions are,

1. Would you, a local business think it is worthwhile
2. What rate would you deem worthwhile, flat day rate or per lead (lead price dependent on what the lead is worth)

1. If you are developing a service then you should know whether or not it would be a service customers would want from your research with those you have identified as your customer base.

2. Similarly you should know what the value of the lead/rate should be.

1 Some will, some will not.
2 Personally this is very vague, you do not seem to consider what YOU might want, this is meant to work for you as well. Why not consider a minimum day rate then an amount per lead? The amount would differ from company to company, a fast food restaurant would expect a lot of visitors/leads, a solicitors might prefer 3/5 highly qualified leads for a particular service rather than just thirty people to ring.

Seems a bit old hat to me, not to mention annoying for consumers - think of the RAC/energy people collaring you every time you go into the supermarket. I also think you'd be quite restricted on how many businesses particularly want, or would get, leads in this way.

Also, unless you're going to learn about every business you're working for, what can you really offer? It's not like you'll be qualified to answer any questions people might have about the product or service. Which basically brings you down to the level of handing leaflets out, which if I wanted that doing I'd pay a couple of teenagers cash in hand to stand there giving them out. Although you'd have a gazebo, I suppose.

It depends on the service that you are going to do the marketing for. Some services may not need door to door marketing at all. Some may do. Door to door marketing is time consuming, thus it gets expensive. So it is to be found out how much it is worth before jumping into it.

Face to Face is not Door to Door. Read the opening post again.

As @MY OFFICE IN CHINA has pointed out you really need to factor in the costs for renting a space / licence fees and I can tell you now the good space does not come cheap, you need good footfall to make it work and thats comes at a price suggest you make a few calls locally and check it out.
