I have a weird issue with excel.

I have a very basic spreadsheet consisting of a date column, 6 x 2 dec point numeric columns, another date column and a further 6 x 2 dec point numeric columns.

All columns are set up to be aligned horizontal centre.

The 4th numeric column (F) has suddenly started to use right indent for the entry. This has happened for rows 28, 29 and 30. All the rest are horizontal centre.

I have tried using the toolbar centre align button, I have tried going in to format cells to centre, I have tried deleting the cells and re-entering the data, I have tried deleting the entire column and manually re-entering the data.

Nothing will persuade this stupid column to centre align the cells from row 28 down.

It doesn't really matter as the data is correct and is being properly used in all formulae, but it annoys me.

    Any suggestions?

    From Google:

    1. Select the entire column
    2. Select the "Data" tab
    3. Press the "Text to Columns" button under "Data Tools"
    4. For "Step 1" press "Next"
    5. For "Step 2" press "Next"
    6. For "Step 3" select "Text" as the "Column data format" and then press "Finish"
    7. When you go to check your columns they should all be aligned correctly

Thank you. I tried that but step 3 was dificult as there was nowhere on the Data screen to select Text, so I moved to format cells and selected text. The cells became left aligned and would not accept a centre button.

So I reversed all of that and then looked to format the relevant cells and founf they were 'Accounting'. I changed that to Text which showed left aligned, then I centre aligned them and they are now centred.

    Why???????????????

Likely the cells further down your spreadsheet just have a defaulted / preset format which is easy to forget about. Nothing you have likely done - "it just happens".
    Thanks.

I think the isue was the cell category which had set to Accounting. Which is weird as I never use that. And I did check the cell alignment in the formatting tab, but I don't think I checked the category.

    Thanks everyone for the help.

Because MS can ! Unfortunately MS "engineers" appear to think they know what you want and so they often preset cells, this can be a complete pain in the a*se ..... and I am not sure if it can be turned off but suspect not as MS knows best :(
