Hi,

I'm looking at setting up my own e commerce site and I'm trying to get an idea of SE Traffic to competitor sites. I've been looking at the traffic stats on SEM Rush and wondered if anyone has an opinion on how accuate these stats are?

As this is the first time I've set up an e commerce site, I'm a little unsure as to how many visitors I can realistically expect to my site within the first year (although appreciate this is very much to do with SEO ranking, marketing efforts etc.).

Many thanks

Can I just ask why you need to know this information?

Looking at competitors stats can also not really give you any useful information, what if site A get 10,000 visits a month but sells £0 and site B gets 100 visits a month and sells £10,000

If you can let us know your reasons behind this we might be able to help, or what is more realistic is to not worry to much about what traffic you might expect and just build a beautiful website that people will happily buy from

Where do get that statistic from? Adverts can easily outweigh organic traffic. Plus it is often more hightly targeted so the chances of conversion can rocket up. And you can launch a special offer, run it for a week ot so then take it down. Try doing that with a bit of SEO.

This is a good idea. Actually 95% of total traffic is organic traffic. People hardly clicks on the adds right??...Go for it..all the best btw lol !!!

And of course, there are other channels than just organic and paid. I've never seen a website with 95% of total traffic being organic I don't think... And there is no 'one size fits all' for websites either, the traffic patterns can greatly differ from one business to another, one website to another, one niche to another.

This question gets asked all the time but unfortunately there are just so many variables that it's almost impossible to say.

Perhaps if you had included some information about the products you're thinking of selling, whether you sell already on eBay or Amazon, the sort of marketing you intend to do, whether you have a facebook page for the business already and how many followers it has... we'd be able to give some wild guesses, but that's all they would be.

What no-one is saying, but is a sad fact, many small eCommerce sites have ZERO traffic.

Yes, sad but true. The single best way to avoid this situation?

Do your market research on eBay either with Terapeak or by starting to sell your products and see what the demand is like.
