Hello

I have a site that generates around 4.2 million Impressions per year but the click through rate is 0.3% (11.8k)

Its a leasing site where the majority of pages generating the impressions are local leasing car leasing in all the countys or van leasing in the UK (I know not the best practice but has worked for years and 90% of pages for specific keywords are in the top 5) however the site is showing up so why not being clicked

Reading the industry standard i should be as high as 9% , I appreciate this could be deemed as a ecommerce site due to the amount of deals if so

Any thoughts or services thank can help would be great

Many thanks

When you say impressions what exactly do you mean? This word is normally associated with ppc adverts not organic ranking.

From where did you get the figure of 4.2 million?

That just means you appeared in a search but mostly down on page 5.

The only impressions that matter are those on page one.

Don't understand, you say mostly on page 5 ??? how did you get that they are mostly page 5 ?? most the pages are in the top 5 first page, from what i have read an Impression is where the person sees your page in the result they have searched, so to me it would be the title or description change to entice them to click your page

So to me its either i have my part wrong on my presumption of Impressions or i need help with Descriptions to entice people to click to bring the CTR to a decent level if it can be achieved

That's like a typical churn site.

The more churned pages created = more impressions
They are only poorly ranked = no increase in clicks
Overall result = Conversion rate drops

It tells you the average position is 52.6, way down past page 1.

It’s quite possible you appeared in millions of irrelevant searches and will never get clicked. For example: a search for the engine size of a particular model.

The number of impressions means nothing. You need to dig deeper into your analytics to see which pages were visited and then fix all the others.

It means they appeared in the search results but most people didn’t see the page.

If you do a search and see your pages you are probably seeing personalised results. Try doing the same in incognito or private mode.
These are 100% top 3 pages in Google nothing is personalised

Search "Van Leasing (and you choose any county in the uk) we show top 3 for 95% of the 195 countys and citys .. this with other search terms surround cars is 100% accurate,

The average page is down but these pages are not hence me trying to leverage what i can, my industry is very strong to compete with In google at this time but these pages are working, of the 64 visitors i have had in the last 24 hours are mostly from these local pages

Not sure which is yours but there are umpteen sponsored listings, then the map pack then the organic. I suspect most people never scroll down enough to see yours.

I’d probably choose one in the map pack near me.

Maybe that is the case and a good reason why the CTR is low, but even in my industry the adwords sponsored listings are through the roof, but this would apply to everyone on google i would imagine in my industry or similar

I think my main question was if my CTR is 0.3% but the average in my industry is lets say 6% what can i do to get this higher and make people want to click me opposed to the other results below me as lets face i am already showing just not being clicked

If you only have 10 pages and they are all in top 3 or 4 of Google your CTR will be good

If you add 100 pages to those 10 but all these 100 pages are only on page 5 your CTR will be bad.

Also - If your 10 good ranking pages also rank lower for other phrases than your main target phrases, your CTR will be bad.

CTR isn't really a good way of judging things for organics

Locally to me there are a couple of leasing companies. If I were doing a search I'd probably choose one of them because they are local. I wouldn't choose you because I don't know who you are and you don't appear to have a local office.

If I want to compare prices or vehicles then your site does the job. But you aren't local to me so I'd not use your services.

Don't underestimate the power of local searches.

If you want a good CTR you need to be local. A number of the organic results have local phone numbers and local postcodes. I'd choose them over what appears to be some sort of affiliate site.

Again

Appreciate that is peoples choice, however they wont know i am not local until they get into the site, (unless only looking at maps then thats another reason not to) I personally use anyone for my purchases as no matter what you order it will be as advertised .. but still dont explain why the pages are not clicked ... as if you did click them then thats a choice they have to use local or not , so like you say to compare a price you have to click into the site, they are not doing that and thats all i really wanted to resolve and i think its simple as title and description enticement which i suppose good copy will do

Thanks again

The way you are using Search Console is showing the average of the whole site

When people talk about organic CTR it's generally when a specific phrase is in a specific position

In Search Console You may have 100's of pages, getting impressions on page 5 and getting zero clicks

Better way of using it is to use the tabs under the graph

set it to Queries, order by position, click on the query and it will tell you the CTR when that query is in that position.

You will never get an accurate result from Search Console by just checking the average for the site.

Reverse the Position (so low rankings are at top) and you will probably find hundreds of queries with numerous impressions but zero clicks, which results in a 0%CTR

You asked about improving CTR. I’m just making a suggestion about why they aren’t clicking on your links.

Another reason could be all those sponsored results - many from recognised brands. People like to use companies they have heard of.

You really need to dig into your analytics to find out which results are working for you.
