Energy from liquefied air
This morning there was a news on Sky news about some one found a way to liquefy air for use to drive vehicles. The idea is to liquefy air first in containers or tanks and then fit the containers to vehicles. The liquid reconverted to air, which causes high pressure to drive the vehicle. It was hailed as a cheap energy and technological breakthrough. I believe both were incorrect.
I remember on 1980, I was watching BBC tomorrow world program. The program was presenting news about latest technological developments. In one of those programs there was a news about a French man, who made vehicles driven by pressurised air. So the idea is not new a part from air liquid, which has an advantage, it gives more miles per tank or container. But it is costier and heavier.
When it comes to cost regarding input and output, it doesn't have any advantages. Because you never get back the same thing you put in. You always get back less. It is the question of efficiency. A machine has to be 100% efficient to give an output equal to input, which has proved impossible. To liquefy air you have to use machines operate with petrol or electrical power, the costs of both don't have any economic advantages.
Apparently a company found away to use liquefied air with economic advantages. At night they buy cheap electricity, when demand slows down a lot, for use to liquefy air. During days times, when demand increases on electricity, they use liquefied air to generate electricity for sale at a higher price.
