Hi All,
Hope you are well. I need some advice on my employment situation.

Started contract job as XXXXX in February 2024. I was working through an umberalla company (XA) for the client (XB) as contractor on project. The project is joint venture between XB & XC. Site is owned and managed by XD who is the end client. In December 2024 due to some hacking issue on my work laptop that I reported XD called me for meeting with my line manager. They told me in meeting that they will investigate the incident but I have to do 'Fit to Work Assessment' before that and will not be working until that is done. They took my office pass and laptop on the same day. XA took few weeks in finding suitable occupation health company (OHC). As it took too long for XA to find the OHC XB gave me four week notice in beginning of February while I was still waiting and not working. When asked for the reason at that time XB simply said they don't have enough work for that role anymore. XA share with me the details of the OHC only in last week of February along with the questionnaire from XB/XD. As my last day was 28th of February and I had to pay for the assessment (as I was contractor) I decided not to do it. My line manger is from XC. During all of that period when I was not working and waiting for the assessment (Dec - Feb) I was in regular contact with my line manager who has mentioned few times in text messages and verbal conversation that he really want me back on this project but as he is XC employee he can't influence XB decisions. Now last week I saw same job is advertised again on XC website (Not XB this time) and also with recruitment agency. I did apply for the role. When spoke to line manager he came back with the answer that since I have issue with my pass (means fit to work assessment is outstanding) his line manager will not consider me for the role. Now when I spoke to the same OHC and one other that currently I am not employed but I want to do the assessment on my own so I can apply for the same job again that is on the market. OHC have clearly told me that it's a Referral assessment and therefore cannot be done without an employer. So now I am stuck. XC is not considering me for the role and OHC will not do the assessment without employer. Please provide any helpful advice if you can.

Have you ever heard of paragraphs?

You weren't an employee. There is nothing you can do. Move on.

As already suggested by @Newchodge - you were a contractor. All you have is the terms of contract.

The hacking and investigation is irrelevant. You were given notice and the contract terminated. That's it. Nothing more you can do.

Sorry not asking here about changing my profession/trade
Maybe not but the job you were doing is no longer available. You need to find some way to make money.

Can you share more details around the hacking?

I am not solicitor but my common sense says it's not right
Your common sense is wrong. As a contractor you are only covered by the contract. If the contracting company no longer wants your services they can terminate the contract. There is nothing you can do about it.
