Evening all,

Can anyone reccomend a website where I can get lists of email addresses for businesses, within a certain area?
I want to try and drum up some work from businesses within my local area.

Also, has anyone used, Michrome? I know they don't detail email addresses but they do have addresses for a mail marketing campaign.

Thank you.

Hi SOS Offices

Unless people have agreed speficially to hear from you, you can't pick up email addresses from a website and email them. There are strict rules about people opting in to receive sales and marketing emails.

Perhaps a better way to achieve your objective is by partnering with a business that complements yours and has your target audience. Give them an offer they can send out to their list. You can reciprocate with your list. Make sure anyone who responds to you on this basis is given the opportunity to join your email list and that way, you have their permission and you build your list.

Hope this helpls.

If you have business addresses - e.g.. enquiries@, info@ and you're targeting the list well enough then you're squeaking inside the Law. Just. But the chances of those addresses landing in the inbox of the right person is slim.

Mailing to an individual subscriber - i.e.. a person, as Marketing by Minal said, is illegal and there are loads of people out there who will go legal knowing they're good for £200 compensation from you for every spam you send. And they'll win, every time.

The list brokers will tell you the data are "opted in", "double opted in" or some other nonsense but unless they've told YOU that YOU are allowed to mail them. You can't. ( Terms and conditions apply ).

What we do is call companies who aren't TPS subscribers and ask them for permission to add their details to our mailing list. You can get exactly the right address, and find exactly the right companies.

Hi SOS, The best way to acquire an email list is to build your own! Yes, I know it sounds difficult, but it is not really. All you need to do is:
1. Create a list on somewhere like Mailchimp (free)
2. Set up a site using Wordpress (free except for the hosting)
3. Place information out online that drives traffic to your site. Then as people register at the site, they get added to your email list and you can then go ahead and send them email.

There is an added bonus here, because the people you are emailing have already expressed an interest in what you are selling (thats why they signed up to your list), so you have a much better chance that they will pay attention to your emails, rather than junk them

Yep. That'll work.

But I think you missed out the part that says "spend a fortune on marketing, or the only person who'll subscribe is your mother". :D

lol, his mother may be a very good customer :)

Step 3, the bit about putting information out online was the marketing bit, the more info he puts out in the more places and the more relevant that info is to his target customers, the more successful the campaign will be and of course there is always the option to spend money on clicks through adwords and other forms of paid traffic. Assuming he doesnt have a massive budget available though, I'd say the free option is best.

For one of my sites I have an entry on Wikipedia, it has been bringing me excellent quality traffic for years now and doesnt cost me a penny (except I do now regularly donate to Wikipedia), thats the sort of thing people should be aiming for IMHO.

Hi.

If you're looking to do some B2B marketing the safest method to do this, outside of building your own list which has already been suggested above, would be to visit Experian's B2B Prospector.

B2B Prospector is a brilliant tool if you want to market your services to other businesses. It allows you to select the type of business, the location, the type of contact, whether you want just email address alongside postal address, or telephone number, etc. Furthermore, you can buy as many or as little leads as you want - I suggest buying a small amount and testing the waters before you go full blown.

You could try email marketing or even a basic direct mail campaign.

In closing, here is how Experian describe it, "B2B Prospector is a simple, online system that allows you to build and buy marketing lists. Powered by the National Business Database, with 5.1 million business records, B2B Prospector gives you access to an unrivalled breadth and depth of information, making it the perfect prospect locator for your needs."

I hope it helps!
