Email lists - ConvertKit or something else?

I'm building a very simple landing page for a project I am working on. The main purpose of the landing page is to get the email addresses of people interested in the project and keep them updated with a newsletter at various points in the development process.

The two main problems are I have very limited funds and I have no idea what software to use. I was initially going to use MailChimp but some YouTube videos showed me ConvertKit which looked rather nice as well and seemed to offer a lot of flexibility.

Does anyone in this area with more experience than me have any recommendations for software to use?

Active campaign is much better as compared to Convertkit. Active campaigns has some great tagging and CRM features you wont find on CK.
They don't need active campaign. All they want to do right now is build the email list and send out newsletters.

@Kerwin - I've been using mailchimp for years and it does this trouble free. You can always move to a new provider/system later if your campaign proves successful.

Thank you. I'll use Mailchimp then as it appears you get 2,000 subscribers for free which is way more than I'll ever need. One thing I am curious of though is how you can move an email list from Mailchimp to another provider if it proves necessary in the future. Is the process easy? Does it work for all providers?

I'm so new to this. Sorry for the stupid questions. I just don't want to be locked into Mailchimp if in 2 years time it becomes necessary to move to another platform.

Yes, it’s very easy. You can export all your contacts as a CSV
