Its well known that having your keyword in your domain name helps for SEO. But if that keyword.co.uk is taken, is there any benefit in having the keyword repeated in the domain name? e.g. keywordkeyword.co.uk

For example

lets say I wanted to set up a site selling frogspawn, but frogspawn.co.uk was already registered, would

frogspawnfrogspawn.co.uk have any advantage (or disadvantage) over, say,

buyfrogspawnhere.co.uk

Just a thought - interested in any opinions

If that was the case i think financefinance may have been bought by now. ;)

The silliness of the made up word would put me off.

There's no end to the lengths you could take this though. If pokerpoker.com is taken you could reg pokerpokerpoker.com. Everyone's a winner.

better to go for "cheapfrogspawn" or "geographicalfrogspawn" geographical being the area you wish to target.

Main thing is having "frogspawn" in the URL.

Thanks for all your comments.

I'm not actually intending to do this, it was just a thought that floated into my head and I was curious.

Thinking about it a little more, Earl's suggestion is better as it gives you a phrase in domain, not just the keyword.

I suppose another alternative would be:

keywordkeywordsynonym.co.uk

(can't now think of a synonym for frogspawn!)

so:

frogspawntadpoles.co.uk

would be better than

frogspawnfrogspawn.co.uk

as you'd pick up traffic for tadpoles as well, but of the 2, which would rank better for frogspawn? (all other things being equal)

Thinking out loud, I'd guess frogspawntadpole would rank better as Google itself would recognise the tadpole in the domain as a synonym?

Any more thoughts?!

It wont have value of the exact match.

If some one types "frogsporn frogsporn" into google, you will be #1 i can assure you though.

Try .org.uk ... it might be avaliable

An interesting spin off to the original question!

So what does everyone think would be best?

frogspawnfrogspawn.co.uk

or

frogspawn.or.uk

(when I get a little time, I might set up an experiment to test this)

.org.uk will beat it hands down, you dont need to waste the reg fee testing.

They are good domain extensions.

I don't think there will be any benefit, at first thought it would look spammy, and I am certain the search engines would see it so to, the trick as they always say is to make it look natural, if your keyword is taken move on
