Does Anyone Want a Link on my Website?

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone wanted a link on my website, in return for me putting a link on theirs?

I have recently set up a website with credit card deals, savings information, current affairs, business tips, film and game reviews, best free Apps, etc, etc..

I have only just set up the site and it has already had 850 people visit, and I will be trying very hard to promote the site and add new content.

Could be a good opportunity to each others website promoted for free.

The site is www.best4everything.co.uk. Or Google best4everything and it comes up first.

I am probably going to sound like quite an amateur now, but how do you work out/know the page rank? Btw, I do admit that I am very much an amateur.

The 850 is the amount measured by the traffic analyser on the site editor that I use. This morning it is up to 928.

Also, it says on my Google Adsense account that the site has had 8755 page impressions since I started the site at the end of January '10. Not sure if that is good at this stage.

At this stage, I am just trying ways to get more people to my site. I am trying to see if I can get any sort of income stream from the adverts.

I figured that getting links on other sites might increase my chances of some traffic, and it is also good for both parties involved.

Sigh...

For get all about income streams from adverts. To make anything other than a few pence you will need thousands of visitors every day.

To get those visitors you need lots of content that people want to read. A few reciprocal links aren't going to do anything at all.

So you need to start being the best4everything and get writing. Minimum 300 words per article and at least one per day. Make sure your advuice is up to date and any news really is new.

Personally I think you are going to struggle to even get noticed and struggle even more to make any money, there are already too many other sites offering this sort of information. You may be better off being the best at just one thing.

Don't woory about pagerank, it's irrelvant. And the traffic analyser may well be showing all the SE robots, sniffers, phishers and all the other rubbish that visits. It's also showing your own visits so that might be a sizeable chunk.

Your page is ranked number one if you specifically search on the phrase best4everything, but the problem is nobody is searching on that phrase. You should probably ask yourself a few questions:


  • What are you selling, offering, informing people about
  • Who is your target market
  • What is the bounce rate, i.e. how many people come to your site, and don't hang about*
  • How many unique visitors are you getting

Check out Google Analytics

You need to have a much better strategy. Like fisicx says you need to get writing, in order to generate the interest so that people will want to visit your site. Also get on Facebook and Twitter

*I would guess that a large chunk of people visiting your site are those people who have seen your posts (and there are many) asking if anyone wants to post a link on your site. I would also guess that they will have left within 2 seconds of arriving on your page.

Thanks for the help so far. It is a new site and I am trying to add more and more content, so in a few weeks it should be looking a lot better than it currently does. I admit that the content is as good as it should be at this stage. I will also get a Facebook page, etc set up.

I have set up a Google Analytics account, but I didn't know where specifically to paste the HTML code?

Just after /body> and before </html>

Don't worry about what it looks like, just get writing.

I'd still rethink what you want to be the best4everying of: knitting, dovetail joints, making toy cars, cooking potatoes, making beds, saving leftover jam, healthy eating, choosing a bank, how to do sums, punctuation, packing lists for holidays, dealing with tantrums...

Good luck with your first project. I'll take a link and I'll give you one back too :)

Just keep adding that content and start thinking like the others have said what types of users and keywords you want to target and use...
