Dissolved Ltd Company Re-Use EBay ID

Hi all, a question regarding limited company rules.

I had an eBay id with great feedback. I was a sole trader then set up as a limited company whilst using eBay. I’ve now dissolved the company as it got to big and costly and wasn’t profitable, it was voluntary, all debts were paid. It’s been 6 months since I stopped trading.

Can I use my original eBay id, with great feedback to sell as a micro non vat registered business, I can change the eBay name id if needed, though I never used my Limited company name as the eBay id, the customer would only find limited company name if they requested a vat invoice or searched through to the contact details.

I can't speak to eBay's rules, but I don't see any reason why not.

If we're being technical.... if your eBay account was in your Ltd company's name, then it was an asset of your company. Now that your company has been dissolved, that asset is now the property of the crown, aka bona vacantia. Practically speaking it's highly unlikely that the Treasury Solicitor is going to come calling claiming your old eBay account.

I think it'll come down to eBay's rules. My instinct is that as the Ltd company no longer exists, they probably won't be keen on you continuing to use it. My clients have certainly had this problem with eBay after starting up again post liquidation.

It's up to ebay whether they will allow you to do this or not. ebay does not usually allow accounts to be transferred.

Thanks for the responses, eBay may let me change company name as I’m still the registered contact name on the id, it’s not like I’ve sold the company to someone else.

There are two answers to this.

1. According to the strict letter of Ebay's rules, you can't do this.

2. In practise, they are unlike to either notice nor care.
