OK so what interesting fact do you know. I was shocked to learn that the Brontosaurus didn't really exsist :shock:
So come on tell us something that we don't know.

I'll start

Pluto is not really a planet. It just a rock.

Curd Tarts are made from curdled milk, in the old days, it was a way of using up sour milk and cream..you'd be suprised how many don't know that :lol:

Nutmeg is extremely poisonous if injected intraveniously (not that you wouldwant to inject it but interesting all the same :D )

I am sorry chris but in this case you would be mistaken, there is controvery over wether or not pluto is a planet or not. But i am afraid it is now welded in the astronomical community, pluto is a planet :-)
There is even another even smaller world that was discovered some time ago. This could be planet 10. The Jury is still out though as to wether it should be called a planet or not though.
Pluto even has a satalite called Chiron :-)

Truth is there is a fine line between a planet (which takes its name from the Greek, meaning wanderer) and an asteroid.

Here are som interesting Astronomy facts for you. As i am celebrating 20 years o being being an amateur astronomer now lol

Did you know
The furthest most ppl can see is the Andromeda Galaxy which is 2.25 million light years away!

Did u know that if there was an Ocean big enough, Saturn would float in it!

Did you know that it is not only human dead skin you hoover up, but cosmic dust as well?

Did you know the Sun is 93 million miles away? nd the light from the Sun takes about 8.33 minuts to reach us?
The suns central core is 15,500,000 degrees C!
Surface temp is 6000 degrees C!
It is half way through its like cycle, and is powered by nuclear energy?
In fact the light you see fro the sun orignated as X-Rays from the core and has taken 100 years to emerge to the surface?

Earth and Venus are about the same size?

That you have cosmic particles passing straight through every second as if you were not even there?

Theres a few to impress ur mates with at the new years party lol

also if the Sun was hollow Earth would fit in there 1.3 million times.

And the Sun is not the hottest thing in Space. It's the third hottest. The hottest thing is the Blue Star

indeed this is true, to an extent :-)
Though i am not sure about the sun being the third hottest
Can i ask where you found that out?

Blue/whate stars are the colour they are because they are new stars, therefore have the most energy, so they are like infernos.
Next time you are out, take a look at Orion, southwest of that is what we call the dog star. Sirus. This is the brightest star in the sky. Other than the sun of course. :-)

Hi all

I mentioned the term light year in one of my posts. It has just dawned on me that some of you might not know what the light year is so here goes.

Light travels at an approc distance of 186,000 miles per second. Which means in a year, it travels 6,000,000,000,000 (6 trillion) miles.
It is used as te astronomers yard stick. As you can tell we can use miles as a unit of distance wen talking within the solar system, however outseide that things are getting pretty vast indeed.

So we decribe galaxies and stars etc as being light years away.

Another useless fact for you.
