Copying Software

Afternoon all.

I'm wanting to copy my access db software from my desk top to lap top. Can't find original MSO disc (another task to add to list) and could do with the DB on my laptop as from yesterday.

What should I be looking for and where?

Hi Emma,

Are you saying you want to install MS Access on your laptop by copying files from another computer?

It's really very difficult as you have DLL files all over the place and registry entries to deal with.

I want to put the access software on my laptop. It's the only thing I really use when I'm out of the office. I'm better off buying a new copy?

In short yes if you have lost the original disc. Ifyou bought a copy it wouldn't be legal

 

Unregistered copies are always available on ebay at reasonable money.
Unfortunately you will have to buy a copy to remain on the correct side of the law.

You ought to try and find the cd, depending on the version you have, the licence agreement PROBABLY allows you to install it on a second,portable computer.

Comes with access and works for free until January, puts off having to buy a copy until then at least

 

Or save your money and use the open source OpenOffice.org

Thanks for the tips, guys. I need to find the disc, but it's not high on my list of priorities, but I ought too...

I have downloaded Open Office but the database program wants all sorts of info which I'm not in a head space to deal with. I thought I'd be able to load my access file on to Open Office and just open it up and away we go, but it's not the case it seems. If you know better, do tell.

It should open with a Database Wizard, click set up Microsoft Access connection and find the database and hopefully it should just be a case of following the instructions (I don't have any to test it on sadly)

Nope, not getting on with that at all. I have the option for a document convertor, but no option for Access.

I'm going to go back to Open Office and see what they have to say...

No can do. Not to worry. Will bite the bullet and get a new copy, cause I think the dog's had the disc..!

With MSO you can have the software installed on 2 computers (desk & laptop) provided that they are not used at the same time - at least thats what it says on my license document!!
