Container Shipping Rates

Holy S**t, I have a container due docking on 26th.
If it puts your mind at ease, we had a box arrive in the middle of the first strike. There was little to no delay and our forwarder said the disruption they were seeing was actually minimal. Hopefully same applies to your freight.

That’s reassuring, fingers crossed ?

How are rates for 20ft containers looking these days? I'm trying to figure out if the rate drops are enough to cancel out some of the poor exchange rates we're seeing.

FOB Deep water China > UK Door approx $5,500 20FTC
Ah, so not much change from last quarter but with a much weaker pound.

I wonder will the fact that we're now seeing the last ships now depart China for Christmas stockpiling put any further downward pressure on rates?

The only sure thing is that the shipping companies are doing their utmost to keep rates elevated but I believe they're fighting a losing battle.

They are blank sailing alot at the moment to keep the rates high, but spot rates still softening. The global economy is weak, and everyone is nervous.

Recently received containers I'm paying approx $8000 for a 40HQ.
I'm being told rates dropping to around $5500 for our sailings in early October.
Our supplier factories in China have really weak order books.
Hoping for some bargains.
Don't forget when negotiating with China that they are getting record amounts of local currency for every dollar you send them. 7.26 Yuan per dollar versus 6.38 this time last year.
A rise of 14%. We are asking for 15% discount on goods and getting it.

We're now seeing rates for 40' of $3,500 CN-UK, but LCL rates seem to be staying stubbornly high at 2-2.5x on a comparable $/CBM basis. Historically there used to be little difference. Any ideas on why LCL price reductions are really lagging?

Ocean Freight costs dropping at an astonishing rate.
For our containers just landed it was still $8000. For the ones leaving China for UL now approx $3700 (40HC). Spot rates today for us are now down to $2606 + surcharges & may drop further ex main ports China.

I've seen rates starting with a $1XXX. Demand must be screwed If rates are crashing. Makes me wonder if worth bringing in more boxes if economics are so weak ?

It does make you think what pressures are occurring around the world.
How will Chinese factories cope with this crash of demand?
I guess the Chinese government will step in and support?

Feels like the repercussions of this recession aren't being fully processed/reported yet.
Good article in the FT today.
