Companies House filing code - anyone had problems?

I have been using online filing for a long time now, and have never had any problems getting the online filing code. But I have one particular client for who I have now requested the code 4 times. I have checked with Companies House who are adamant the code has been sent on each ocassion and are now saying its a problem to put to Royal Mail. I truly dont believe they are being sent and just wondered if this is a problem anyone else has had?

I requested one last Thursday and it arrived on tuesday, so I don't think there is a problem overall. Is the registered office receiving other mail ok?

I usually have more of a problem with HMRCE authorisation codes - there I don't believe they get sent out!

Do HMRC send them out by normal first class post? If it is sent in some form of post that needs to be signed for they could possibly be sitting at the sorting office, although I expect they would go back to sender after one week. Our sorting office has a habit of attaching any single item that needs to be signed for to the rest of the post with an elastic band, not sending any of it out and just sticking a card through the door asking you to come and collect it all. Charming...

Yes its strange they had the standard letter all companies are getting re the new CA2006 changes etc but no code! Its really odd they are adamant they are being sent and we've checked/double checked the address etc. It just sounded like a system problem at Companies House which was why I wondered if it had happended to anyone else here.

All you need to do, is get the a Director or the Company Sec (if there is one), to send the following letter on the company letterhead to:

Electronic Filing Administration
Crown Way
Cardiff
CF14 3UZ

Thanks very much for the suggestion.

It just seems unnecessary and rather defeats the object of using online services really, but it might be one solution as a one-off in this case as Companies House are adamant that the code is/has been posted to the client.

Doesn't that somewhat invalidate the idea of it being a security code? Please tell me it is not that easy to change.

Yes it is.
I could change all my Ltd Co clients to use the same authentication code if I wanted to.

So, couldn't anyone write that kind of letter and gain access for fraudulent means? I mean, it is not like most businesses check what Companies House is holding on them unless they are filing a return, is it?

Possibly.

Co House has this 'proof' scheme running now which is suposed to protech against this kind of thing. Not sure how good it is and you have to sign up to it first.

After numerous calls and emails I have just called Companies House again and spoke to a most helpful young Welsh lady. I quote

''Well...see...we've ad a bit of a .........how do you say glitch see........if the address is a bit long see..our system dont like it and dunt send it. No problem though see cos I'll send it now manually for you, now''

You have to smile...

That sounds a bit like "Angharad" who I spoke to earlier whilst trying to get my client registered for VAT on line !! she was unhelpful with me as well - although I guess now your problem is sorted so maybe she isn't quite so unhelpful after all. Lucky you !! I did eventually get the registration sorted but only after 3 phone calls and 3 totally unhelpful people - all because of "data protection" I'm still coming down from the stress of it all. What I do like is how they've all been trained to listen to you ranting about the stupidity of it all, express no opinion at all and then say "thank you for calling" when you realise that actually it's getting you nowhere !!

Just want to add a tangent - a nice lady from HMRC phoned me the other day, was incredibly helpful, didn't have to phone me at all but took it upon herself to make my life easier by giving me info she didn't have to!
I made a point of thanking her, it's lovely to receive good customer service from HMRC
