Hi,

I want to import clothing from India and I have no experience of import in the past. Can someone please shed some light on below questions?

1: Do I need any kind of licence or documents for import?

2: Do I need to register a company first or I can import as self employed?

2: I do not have a business bank account yet. Can I transfer the money to supplier from my current bank account?

3: Which is the best way to transfer the money to supplier?

Thanks in advance.

1. No but you will need to register with HMRC for an EORI number if your not VAT registered. You will need this to clear the goods through customs.

2. No. You can import just as a normal humanoid.

2. (you put 2 twice....) yes you can transfer from a normal bank account.

3. (this should be 4 really.... haha) This is the million dollar question, you can TT the money from your bank but make sure you have some security that they will send the goods. You can also use other means such as western union paypal etc should your supplier accept these and if the amount is small enough to not attract large fees.

Hi Belucrative,

Well I have never actually paid anyone with Western Union but I have certainly received a lot of payments via it from my customers so on that basis yes you can.

Any invoice from your supplier will be sufficient for your expenses with the addition of the WU transfer receipt.
