That is scary. Although I would like to hope that ours won’t go as fast. Italy had a higher death rate than what could be considered “normal” because they have an older population - no?

For years I've laughed loudly at the American survivalist community. I'm now wondering if they actually got it right - we need the same, minus the guns, obviously!

I’ve just been on FaceTime to my Mum and apparently my uncle has symptoms so he has gone into isolation. I asked if it was confirmed Corona but apparently they’re not testing anyone unless they go into hospital. Confirms that there is likely to be far more cases than is being reported.

My business partner’s 11 month old granddaughter was taken by ambulance to hospital on Thursday night with a temperature of 39.5 degrees.
they didn’t test her but have said she has an upper respiratory tract infection and both parents are to self isolate for two weeks.

Lightheartedness is good but I'm pretty sure XombieCreative wasn't being lighthearted.
My issue is with some of the absurdly overly-dramatic language being used throughout this period.

Very simple.
The country you are residing in has (probably) got very low infected cases and is not at the same stage as much of Europe is at present.
If you was living in Italy (as an example), you would not be alarmed at what people are saying (Famine & Noahs Ark aside). France, Spain and latterly Germany are experiencing the same.
This virus and how it affects people, economy and normal life cannot be underestimated.
See it and experience it with your own eyes, than tell me some of the language is 'overly-dramatic'.
If you have a chance look and listen to what senior doctors and nurses have said about treating patients. You will be reduced to tears, as they have, unless your heart is made from stone.
Cities in UK will start to go on lockdown within a week. This virus does not pick and choose who to infect or who the carriers will be.
The country where you are currently residing in has probably escaped the grip of this virus and you should be thankful for that.
But, open your eyes, you seem an intelligent person.

You may have explained your reasons but they were baseless, emotionally grounded and don't stand up to scrutiny.

I personally think whatever Ron was stated regarding the virus based on his observations and ground information in China has been very insightful and helpful.
Sadly much of what he says has and will come into to force especially when the virus has peaked in the UK. Total lockdown sounds about the only possible solution to a pandemic of this nature as their is no natural or acquired immunity against this virus.

I can’t help thinking businesses have got the wrong understanding of when the PM said takeaways are fine.
When I’ve been out the last few days (in my car, not near other people!) I’ve seen most cafes have converted to serving at the door - hence huge queues down the street. I took it to mean home delivery is fine, close your premises - as in, Just Eat style or order from the website, pay online and leave at the door.
people are still out now. Buying food and paying cash at the door, all standing next to each other and touching staff who then hand over food.

Yes, it's absolutely insane! As I posted above, the Police stopped me and my better half the other day for holding hands whilst walking to the shop. (In Spain) Some might call it drastic, I would call it understandable and acceptable. Over here it's being taken incredibly seriously. In the UK, people seem to be viewing it as a bit of an inconvenience.

Experts also say a large proportion of 18-34s live at home with these older people, which increases the risk of the virus spreading.

Of course. It's insane and makes absolutely zero sense!
Interpretation though. When the PM said it, I immediately thought 'takeout' - delivery to your home. I didn't think it would require further explanation, but I was obviously mistaken and he should have spelled it out in detail. Don't stand next to people in a queue. Even so, from what I've seen this weekend, they're going to have to physically throw people back in to their homes.
I would have expected businesses to also understand it but they're not getting it either. They're letting people congregate around the entrance of their property, all breathing on each other.
I'm trying to do my best to isolate as much as possible but other people are being incredibly inconsiderate.

We got our Sunday dinner from our local italian restaurant, partly to support them. They cannot (currently) deliver but have always offered a takeaway service. Today they offered 5 minute collection times, so (theoretically) no queuing, but limited number of customers.

They should follow the models being used in Supermarkets in France & Italy (and elsewhere):
1. Limited entry into the supermarket.
2. Orderly queues outside, spaced out with a 2M gap.
3. Hand steriliser on entry.
4. 2M gaps at checkout.
Shelves are full of food.
It all points down to efficiency of supermarkets, managers and discipline within the public.
