Can I claim anything back?

Hi

I'm wondering if I can claim anything back from the tax man in relation to advertising my company in the following way

I've joined a local and expensive gym. Whilst there I've decided to wear some polo shirts with details of about joining a lottery syndicate with the web address too.

When I'm on the running machine or sat on bike I will make sure I'm in the best position for other gym members behind me to get the best view of my t-shirt.

I know myself when doing cardio work you look every where when trying to pass the time. Hence where my t-shirt comes in!

Its a very friendly gym and I'm sure people will ask about it.

It will be simple and something like this

Anyhow, its £50 a month for the gym membership and I'm wondering (seriously) can I claim anything back!

Cheeeers

No.

Rob asked the same question and you cannot claim back gym membership through Tax.

Sorry lovey,

Jayne :D

Hi all

Quick replies

I'm a sole trader, will this make any difference?

Cheers

Possibly, although I am not an accountant ;) As a sole-trader, gym membership is likely to be seen as a benefit and is taxable. The same could apply to Ltd Companies but I tend to put it in anyway ;)

You can claim back the money for your Advertising T-Shirts

No you cannot its called duality of purpose and as they are clothing and are therefore needed for ordinary activity (unless you live permanently in a nudist colony).

If it was protective clothing which you could not(not just would not) wear ordinarily then it would be claimable.

Well, Alan, what about this?

As one who thinks 'outside the square'; if Lisa were to buy Iron On transfers that are purpose made for advertising, and had them ironed on to her shirts, would the cost of the transfers and fitting be deductible? I acknowledge the shirts wouldn't be, but there could certainly be some very expensive transfers around  .

cheers, Nigel
