Can anyone recommend a book distributer/supplier?

Friend of mine who is looking to start a small online lifestyle business is looking to stock a handful of niche books. Stuff similar to:

Does anyone know of or can they recommend a book supplier or distributer that could supply this sort of stuff? Or does he need to go direct to the publisher/author of the books? I don't have a clue how this works so can't help him at all.

There are book distributors who represent many publishers and do their fulfilment, avoiding the need for individuals or small shops having to contact them for tiny orders - not unlike how Amazon works really... http://www.macmillandistribution.co.uk/ and http://www.gardners.com for example. Their web site has lots of info for small booksellers on how to register and order.

Of course if it's very specialist, then contacting the publisher might make more sense anyway...

And if it is very small quantities, you might just lurk on Amazon and eBay picking up the known titles that you want when they come up for very low prices - a bit of effort, but if books are only one or two shelves in a shop (real or virtual) then a saved search might be worth the effort.

Also the remaindered and out-of-print distributors, (Google the search above adding remainder or remaindered).

Identifying titles that sell, watching out for delivery costs (or minimum order quantities to avoid them), lots of things to consider... good luck!
