Buying Landline numbers.

Hi,

Looking to purchase some "Catchy" landlines numbers.

I have a voip provider i am very happy with. (do not want to switch so no sales pitch please)

I have asked for a couple new landlines for virtual offices. numbers they have come up with are pretty bland. to get a "catchy" one they want to charge circa £300

I assume you can buy landline numbers like domain addresses, but after searching the internet just coming up with hosted or transfer services.

Anyone know where i can buy a couple of numbers outright and pass to my voip provider to host?

Phone numbers can't be bought, they are assigned to telecos by Ofcom and don't belong to anybody. Numbers can however be ported between providers, so if your existing VoIP provider is a member of the ITSPA you should be able to ask them to port across a number you have with another provider.

Memorable numbers are valuable, you'll find that everyone strips them out of their number blocks and sells them at a premium. Depending on the number anything for £50 to £1000.

Guessing this was not as easy as i thought!

Decided to go with the bland local numbers and invest in "local" domain names instead.

Is there any way to "search" for a specific number or request one, for example i have area codde 123456 and want different-area code 123456 as well??

Some telcos allow searches, otherwise you can ask them.

If you know the number you want you can stick it in this and it will tell you who has the number you want
