Buying an affiliate based turnkey website

Hi all I have just joined the forum and wondered if anyone has had experience of buying a turn key web site I would like to know what to look out for - thanks chris

I think if you need to ask then you're a mark and are almost certainly going to get taken for a ride by one of the 1000's of get rich quick on the internet garbage pedlars that are out there.

I would suggest building a site from scratch, and learning as you go. Its by far a better way to do things.... one bad mistake on a site you paid thousands for could wipe it out overnight. Set up a few sites yourself then when (and I do mean when, not if) you wreck one it won't be a disaster.

The odds of buying a turn-key affiliate site and being profitable in the short-term are astronomically low.

If someone can sell you one, they can sell the same thing to 100 other people. Even if it is an amazing site, how are you going to get enough traffic to generate sales (commissions)?

Developing sites is easy. Driving traffic which buys the products - that's the hard part.

I was an affiliate manager for a network for several years and have had success as an affiliate myself and I would 100% agree with this advice.

The vast majority of turnkey affiliate sites out there are being sold by 'Flippers' e.g. people who make their money by building a quick website and selling it on for substantial profits.

Ask yourself, if the site has that much potential then why is it being sold? Especially if the price seems very low.

Building a website is the easy part - anyone can put one together. The thing that defines success is whether you can get targeted traffic to the site and convert it.

If you really want to buy a site and have the budget then look for an established one that is getting good organic traffic and converting it to sales. Just make sure there is no doubt either about its traffic sources or its income level.

Turnkey affiliate websites or pre-made affiliate websites, become so popular this days taking that hassle away. To understand this type of websites we must analyze and review them.
There is actually no limit to the earning potential. Just like in any business, it all depends on your promotional strategy and marketing campaigns. When you are new to online business, there will be a learning period. To reduce your learning curve, you can use proven web business tools or get guidance from an online business coach.

Hi Chris

The other posters above have given you reasons not to buy a turnkey site, however your question was what to look for if you want to buy one.

I'm going to assume its a brand new site without any history either sales or traffic. If that's the case then you are just looking at the domain name, (is it brand able, is it an exact match for a keyword related to the product etc) and also the time it would take you (read: cost of time) to design and build the site yourself.

Once you add all that up, look at the site and see if it has the affiliate companies embedded in it that you want to use, or it will cost you more dev time to get them implemented.

The final thing I would look at, is what are the competition on the first page of Google for your main keyphrase doing to get in that position? Do their sites have loads of articles that rank? If so, can you add that mechanism to the turnkey site? etc

I've bought a few turnkey sites before just because all of the design work has been done and that saves me time, so they can be worth it.

Obviously all of the above is my opinion and your millage may vary :)

Cheers
Rob

I would say finding the niche that returns the best ROE is the hardest part. For me it is anyway :D

Yes I wouldn't disagree that finding the right niche can also be tough although I have always found traffic to be harder!

Even if you choose the wrong niche you can still make money if you can drive the right traffic to the site. Im yet to meet anyone who is making money without being able to generate traffic though! :D
