Hi.. I am starting a new business as a Hydroponics retail store, selling plant nutrients and all hydroponics equipment. I will be selling online and also have a physical brick and morter shop selling to customers face to face

I am undecided between these x2 names and wondered what you people thought

Either

Hydroponik

(With a 'k' instead of a 'c'.. mispelt on purpose. This seems to be a trend in some buisnesses now)

Or

Hydroporium
(Which is a combination of the words 'Hydro' and 'Emporium'. Emporium means large retail store)

Out the two Hydroporium is the better of the two but does your audience know what you are, are people into growing plants indoors and nutrients using that word? I assume a big percentage that would buy from you are doing so to grow a bit of puff in their kitchen on the downlow.

You could get an advertising account with google and see what people search on, what related keywords attract attention. If they search on “Hydrophonics” and it’s online orders you want to attract better to include the keyword in your web address.

At the end of the day, I guess you could call it anything you like and tag it “a Hydrophonics specialist” but it can be harder to get your business established if you have to keeping explaining what you are.

With business names I always prefer the KISS method, Keep It Simple Stupid, unless you have lots of cash to chuck at marketing to get your brand established and explain what it is.

    Good luck

I agree that few people know what hydroponics are. I have heard about them before, because in my school holidays I used to work in a nursery where the tomatoes were grown.

I think "Hydroponik" is the best one of the two mentioned, as it does not sound like a spa. But, it probably needs a second word such as in "Hydroponik Systems".

Have you got the shop, have you got the website?
Have you produced your cash flow and P&L and got capital to invest
Proving on paper that it stands a chance of working is so much more important than worrying about what to call it.
Go and ask 100 people if they know what Hydroponics means and then call your sites something that most people can understand.
Go to every local garden centre and see what they offer in Hydroponics equipment, research everything,

Maybe have a made up name that doesn’t describe the business (like Amazon) and use a tagline in your marketing to describe what you do. This will give you the opportunity to expand and diversify.

Is there sufficient local demand to support a B&M business?
