Broadband - who are people using?

We are currently looking for a new broadband provider for our office and just wondering who everyone is using and if you are happy or if I should avoid

I personally use a community broadband called Clannet. I live in the country and had rubbish BT line broadband (512kbps) so switched to Clannet, which is a point to point radio service and I get 20Mbps both ways.
I've no affiliation with them so don't mind plugging them here as their service has been excellent.

We've been using EntaNet for years now. It's still BT plumbing at the end of the day but Enta have a big stick when it comes to handling BT and any issues have always been dealt with quickly - their support is good.

As I'm limited to BT/OR/FTTC pipes at home also, the ability to have fixed IP for cheap setup on a residential line, unlimited with fair usage caps, friend referral discounts, and their support being based in Sheffield as am I, made PlusNET a no brainer. Generally happy for the money.

I've used Quik Internet for many years and I can't fault either their uptime or their superb customer service.

For ADSL via a BT phone line, Andrews and Arnold are in a class of their own. Not the cheapest, but the best rarely are. We find it refreshing that should you need to call support you are talking to a fellow IT professional, not someone working from a script.
Not that it would matter to most, but they support IPv6 end to end.

I also have a connection from Virgin Media Business, which seems to work well, have never had cause to contact support. They are professional to the extent that you have a fixed IP address and they will set rDNS on request.

I can vouch for Entanet as well. Although not a user of their service we do resell their FTTC and Ethernet services and from a support perspective we rarely get a call from a customer about the service - so for us that means it must be good.

For myself, I spend a lot of time working from home and I use Zen Internet. Crikey they are expensive but in 12 years of using them I have only ever found their service rock solid. I have had 2 outages (one when FTTC was first rolled out and there was an issue in the Whoesale Gateway and the second was when a Super Exhcange in Sheffield had a 10Gb feed cut, requiring a total replacement with new fibre). Support were easy to contact and great to work with. Pity they dont have a very mature wholesale proposition.

Zen Internet is very good, but may be expensive. Support is top notch when required.

Currently using TalkTalk business, just got 12months half price fibre & phone line from them.

80Mbit download / 20Mbit upload (just don't expect their standard router to provide these speeds, expect a little less).

You get 24/7 UK support and an SLA as well as static IPs if you need them. You don't get any of this from TalkTalks range for consumers, it's a totally different service (at a higher price).

Having said that, we've just had 2 weeks of only being able to achieve 10kb downloads with multiple 80Mb VDSL lines. Apparently many of their nodes have gone massively (and suddenly) over capacity for some reason and they won't be fitting new hardware until this Friday.

So sorry EntaNet but I'm going to have to withdraw that prior recommendation.

Another +1 for Zen here. I have used Zen for nearly 15 years at home and the office and although I have had the occasional problem they have always been quick to resolve it. Yes they are a bit more expensive than most but worth it especially their customer service which is second to none!!

An excellent ISP, but not available to most unfortunately.

If you can avoid BT/OpenReach and copper wire then do.
The smaller fibre/ethernet providers are generally very good - you'll generally get better customer service, lower contention, and performance.

I like @Alan's idea of a backup ADSL connection. May do that. Sky and other providers often have very cheap promotions around now.
