This month I switched from BT broadband to TalkTalk as they were less than half the cost. I paid TalkTalk extra to get a faster speed.

I have noticed that everything is now slower than it was.

I ran a check through TalkTalk that logged my download speed as 30Mbps (I may have the extension wrong there).

I immediately afterwards ran a check through a comparison site that logged my download speed as 7Mbps (same disclaimer)

Anyone got any suggestions as to what I should do next?

When i had a lot of issues with BT i used their own test site and the test results always pretty much matched the tests i did using http://www.broadband.co.uk/broadband-speed-test/ so i would say that might be a close way to double check the results you are getting. I had a complete nightmare with BT they thought 0.1Mbs was acceptable as it was within the guide range they advertise. Normally i get 2.7 - 4Mbs. Never used Talktalk but with BT i just kept on complaining and making official complaints. Touch wood its been ok for the last 3 months. Good luck

It could be that the profile is incorrect. We have had this on occasion when a client has migrated over to us and it has just required a quick change at the wholesale provider end. Ask TT if they can check the line profile with BTWholesale.

Has anyone any comment about the different speeds recorded between TalkTalk's own site and the independent one?

Have TT provided a new router? If so, do you still have the old one? Run the speed checks again on both the TT and an independant and give TT the results.

If you PM your line number I can check the indicated speeds via our wholesale speed checker just in case the speeds available at the exchange have changed at all.

Thanks. I don't have the old router unfortunately.

It could also be DLM (Dynamic line management) changing the profile on your line, mine does this at home if my router drops out, giving me a slower speed!

At the moment (touch wood) It's fine! I would suggest asking TalkTalk for a new router as that might help!

It varies enormously, but it feels slower than when I used BT. My main concern was why I would get different speed results using different speed check sites. I would really like to see a recommended speed check site.

I've spent three weeks getting a TT broadband installation working, now it's actually working, the speed is so slow as to be unusable. The BT router in the next door premises is much, much quicker, so I'm using my BT password to get a useable service. This is a £25 a month extra account I set up for one user, and I've written off the year's charges already, and just using it for phone. Their service is terrible unless you get access to a UK based agent - who did manage to get a equipment swap in the exchange - something the Indian people just couldn't do. I hope I never have to talk to them ever again. However - you will get a response if you post on their Facebook page, that's how I got to talk to the UK people, however, once you close the case, your access to that department is removed.

Close all other tabs and all other programmes, make sure nobody else is on your BB and open this one - http://speedtest.btwholesale.com/

Thanks, tried that, got measure of 11 whatevers, when I am paying extra to get 30+. Need to talk to talk talk to talk talk to talk....sorry, got stuck in a loop there.

Come on Girl! You know what to do - final demand for fulfilment of contract as advertised, followed by letter before action and then stick it to them!

I'll chip in with a few bob!

I KNOW. What I find really scary is that I do know, I know what I should do, I know how to do it, I know I should do it, but I haven't got round to it yet. (Do you happen to have a roundtoit? as I need one).

So what is happening to those who don't know, who aren't aware they are being ripped off.

But I will start the process tomorrow and report back on what happens.

    Probably.

    From TalkTalk's website
"2006 - TalkTalk launches free broadband, completely transforming the UK’s residential market. Demand far outstrips supply, but our position as a challenger brand, determined to disrupt the established telecoms market, is established. We also buy AOL Broadband from Time Warner, keeping is as a separate brand until 2015"

Well they actually established themselves as a brand I would never ever ever do business again with.

After switching to their free broadband and their service simply did not work, I asked to switch back to ntlworld. They basically told me I can't as I was in a 12 month contract and that I would have to pay to leave!

After going round in circles with numpties that didn't understand they were failing on their contract, I managed to get the direct email of Charles Dunstone and one of his assistants stepped in and said it would be all sorted, I got my transfer.

3 months later - guess what - a call from a debt collection agency for outstanding charges ( from the free service that failed to deliver ). Had to go back to CD's assistant to get it sorted.

Financial Times 1st Feb 2017 "TalkTalk founder Sir Charles Dunstone has returned to centre stage as executive chairman to find the broadband company’s own X Factor."

Make of that what you will - perhaps reviving fortunes involves over selling and under delivering?

I had one here a moment ago. I'll find it as soon as I finish off the skirting boards in the hall and the new tool shed and getting that window sorted in the music school and fixing the puncture on the tractor and doing the fence on the lower field and then there is that smell in the gents' loo and then the slow cistern in the ladies and then there is that issue with the drive and the new control room needs planning and then our I have to check on that chap who is now beetled off to France and I have to case up that deal in Dresden and the gents' loos still smell funny.

Why is it all down to me? I thought I was past all this guff! What happened to kicking back and taking it easy?

As someone that deals with Service Providers on a daily basis, Talk Talk are with out a doubt, the worst you can get.
Everything to do with TT I deal with, has no right or wrong, it is all contained in their own procedure of which you can never get to a completion.
They are cheap for a reason.

Slow cistern fixed, smell traced but not fixed fully, skirting boards cut to size, bloke in France not coming back, so my roundtoit working, albeit rather slowly!

    Scary??? Seriously?

Come on! Sticking it to the Man is always good for the soul! It is one of the 'funnest' things one can do! It is almost, but not quite, as satisfying as sticking the heid on someone in a pub fight.

But I will start the process tomorrow and report back on what happens.
    And . . . ?
