Hi,

After doing a bit of brainstorming for ideas on marketing Cornish Auto in unusual and attention grabbing way one of the ideas was to provide a 'Bikini Babe Carwash Service'.

The carwash would take place at one of our many surf festivals here in Newquay, Cornwall, On the road leading down to Newquays award winning beach, Fistral.

When the festival is on, thousands flock from all over Cornwall to see the event. It's the 'must be' place in the summer. It typically happens over a full week including two weekends.

It's the kind of scene you expect to see in movies, bikini clad babes, well built surfers and sportsmen, they have a huge area set out including a huge beer tent, lots of surfy shops set up in little white tents, music blaring. It's a very fun event.

The Bikini Babe Carwash would definately fit in with the whole festival, in looks and spirit.

Do you think it's something that could benefit Cornish Auto?

I've heard comments such as possibly sexist, degrading to the brand from one person, so would be nice to hear comments from a variety of people.

Whilst washing the cars, we can get one of the girls to put a sticker in the rear window of the car, and also get other girls to hand out flyers in slack times.

What do you think?

It seems to fit the market for the event, so you shouldn't be too worried about the surfer folk getting annoyed. The proviso being that you don't make it too tacky - and that you've got it all under control - you did mention a big beer tent didn't you?!

Whether it benefits Cornish Auto though is a completely different matter. What market are they going for? Are they worried about a few letters and maybe an op-ed piece in the local paper? If they're after the young, cool market then that sort of exposure may work in their favour anyway and could break into media that you aren't expecting...

The key thing is to make sure you've got a response up your sleeve if things don't go your way - but then again, you should always have that!

Not really my cup of tea but then I'm old, however for marketing your business it sounds an excellent idea and right idea for your target market. However as Stephen has said, it would need to be kept under control and not too tacky. :)

I wouldn't alienate the female side of the market. I know it's mainly a novelty thing but adding an attached or nearby car wash with some buff guys will be much more appealing to ladies - and I don't think I need to tell you how many more people your whole car wash event would attract then ;)

I wouldn't be offended by a bikini babe event, but plenty would. I think the idea of hunks and babes is a great way round it and would avoid any major complaints.

Best of luck - will be very eyecatching and no doubt get press coverage, hope it achieves what you want.

I would be careful that you dont alienate women, I think alot find garages quite intimidating as it is, and there is a bit of a stereotype of the sleazy calenders pinned up - this might reinforce that.

Also being from Cornwall myself, I know this event has a lot of tourists (or emmets as we call them!) who come down to get drunk and lairy - then they leave. Do you want to associate with that scene? Are the tourists the people who are your customers, or the locals? I don't really know, I'm not from around Newquay but I have a feeling there are people who don't like these kind of things. I think you should definitely do something fun, but to me the bikini babes seem a bit sleazy, perhaps I'm old fashioned (I'm only 24 though!).

Maybe you could do something that tied in with the water fights that go on - maybe give out branded water pistols or something? Might not grab as much attention as a bikini babe! Good luck with whatever you do. :)

I am taking in all this information trust me, it is all appreciated! :)

Those of you guys up country, north, midlands area, if you've never been to Newquay you may not know what it's really like down here.

during last summer for example, there was this surf festival and lynx had this massive contraption at the event called a man wash. Basically there was like 5 stations, each with two bikini babes, and then any man that wanted a good soaking from the girls, would go through the 'Man Wash', the first two would strip the man to his boxers, the second two would soak him, the third two would soap him up, the fourth two would rinse him and fifth two would dry him.

Now ofcourse that's for Lynx and that's entirely appropriate.

The beer tent as mentioned isn't mine, thats usually put on by Fosters themselves.

I have thought about maybe having two bays, the 'bikini babes' and then one for 'handsome hunks' or something.

Newquay is such a lively place, when the summer comes, women walk around town in bikinis, blokes walk around in just shorts, don't think people even hear of shoes during the summer. It's such a different atmosphere than anywhere else I've ever been in the UK.

How about maybe like a waterfight area, men can have a huge waterfight with bikini babes, or if your a lady you can have a water fight with the hunks?

I just thought the car thing would fit with the business, we could stick a sicker in the back window whilst washing it ;) and have a few people handing out leaflets as a car gets cleaned and gets watched being cleaned :)

Up country, I admit this would look like some sort of dirty chav fest, but down here it's free love and surfer chics duuuuuuude.

Or how about get loads of girls, and loads of boys, get some transfers made, have them all over the peoples bodies and get them to walk around, give leaflets out etc?

so for the girls they could have the logo on the bottom of their back, and the boys could have it over their shoulder blades etc?? Body advertising?

I'm a body painter based in Bristol and I paint logos on people for promotional advertising all the time!

There are loads of motor bike dealerships that hold big events and get in a "star" or a special new bike and have a big event. Girls get painted to look like they are wearing biking leathers and then the guests/customers get to have their pictures taken with them. It takes 4 - 6 hours to do a full body paint so the girls start the morning just wearing a thong and they get painted up in full view of the showroom during the event with the photocall at the end. I've got some images if you're interested.

Other jobs have involved painting people entirely gold or silver or marble effect and letting them loose around exhibitions handing out leaflets. Or just painting logos on backs or chests for a drinks promo at night clubs.

It all attracts an interest and we get lots of press and passerby attention when we're working. LOL!!

Best wishes
