best UK based online backup service

Hi All,

I am told that we cannot use for or business an online backup service based outside the EU are for Data Protection act reasons.

Is there a relatively cheap solution for online data backup that is UK based, and the data is stored the UK, or at least EU area?

We are waiting to hear from our present provider about the amount of data currently stored (after 1 year of use).

I suspect it won't be more than say, 10 to 12GB. Incremental backups could make this figure higher - it depends on how they calculate the space used. Is it in uncompressed raw data?

Would the above be included in the £4.95 per month you quoted?

It depends on the amount of data. For the laptop/desktop based solution:

5GB - £4.95
10GB - £6.95
20GB - £9.95
50GB - £22.95

Prices are per month and ex-vat. The packages are ideal for backing up a single desktop or laptop. It includes the software to automatically backup your files and will do incremental backups to dual datacentres.

There are also "professional" packages available which allow server backups such as SQL and exchange.

Ah - you said best, not cheapest

I don't know about the BT offering, but you really do need to be 100% sure it is EU based and isn't like to change in the future. UK based will always be more expensive than US based as bandwidth there is so much cheaper.

A lot of the people you see offering the service via a google search will just be resellers and may not be 100% sure of the storage locations of the service themselves so make sure you see some evidence to avoid DPA issues for yourself.

What kind of protocol do you require? FTP, rsync, scp?
How much space do you require?
Do you require encryption?
