Hi, I have finished my BA degree in accounting and now looking to enroll to one of the accounting courses to enhance my cv and experience, as I have applied to 100s of jobs and still not working!
Which course do you recommend? I was thinking CIMA !
And which is the best UK provider for accountancy courses?

Thanks

    CIMA - excellent choice.

Free online study course appears to be available here:

Cannot vouch for how good the course is, but reasonably priced!
    Good luck.

So you want to become a Management Accountant not a Financial Accountant?

Do you want to become a qualified accountant?

Where did you do your degree?

It all depends what you want to do, how ambitious you are, and whether you want to be qualified. Either way be prepared to start at the bottom and work your way up.

A lot of people start by working in an accountancy firms to gain professional qualification (eg ACCA mentioned above) and then move to an industry role after a few years. Or you might be able to find an industry role that provides ACCA/CIMA training.

Management accounting is defined as the combination of accounting, finance and management with the leading edge techniques needed to drive successful businesses.

Financial accounting is extremely valuable but a distinction between the two can be drawn upon in terms of time - some twenty-one months! By way of example - the financial accountant will, providing you give assurances, reluctantly and subject to further provisos, state that your profit and loss of nine months ago, probably gives a fair view of the position at that time. The management accountant on the other hand will tell you, with confidence, where you are today and with reasonable confidence where you may be financially in twelve or more months from today. Still undecided? My view only of course!

Both are useful and have a (different) purpose.

With the benefit of hindsight, such as post period end transactions as evidence, the financial accountant might actually be more "confident" of the true position than the management accountant.

@totoM you said you were thinking CIMA, does this mean you would prefer a management accountant job? Where are you based and what sort of jobs have you been applying for ("applied to 100's")?

The management accountant would have the same benefit of hindsight too but probably prepared the accounts with certainty anyway. However it further emphasises some differences. Wait until tomorrow and you may feel even more confident of the past! On the one hand you have a discipline unable to let go of the past and wanting to revisit history with no added benefit. On the other hand a discipline forward thinking and turning business opportunities into reality. Fortunately the disciplines are available to be both used by and for the benefit of all.

What I can tell you is that the formal accounting exams are extremely difficult and take many years. Once you're fully qualified though, you should be able to get a well-paid job ... if AI hasn't taken that job away.

Many big companies offer schemes where they train accountants.

Fortunately accounting is an art. The accountant will also be required to sort out the mess created by AI; as is all too frequently experienced.
You think AI can't do art? Have you not seen DALL-E 2 or Midjourney? Have you not read what GPT-4 can write?

You're kidding yourself if you think that AI won't be able to do the job of an experienced accountant in the next few years.
