I have just come back from a tax enquiry for a client and HMRC have requested details of a transfer out of my clients account - they have the sort code and account number

My client cannot recall whos account it is

He may do if he knows what bank it is

Does anyone know where there is a sort code directory ?

I'll be able to tell you if it is an HSBC one (I used to work for them)

As an hsbcnet.com user I get that for free - sort code lookups I mean.

But isn't it outrageous that the banks don't provide this information for free? Don't we pay enough in charges?

77 91 13 - Lloyds TSB
400727 - HSBC

If you give their call centres a phone they may be able to tell you exact branch info.

There is an actual "directory" issued every year with all the sort codes, addresses & tel numbers etc.... I used to ask my bank for a copy (because I used to process a lot of BACs payments and needed the info) and they used to automatically let me have one every year.

I have not needed it in the last 3 years, so no longer get them. I presume you can still get them?
