Why are they withholding payments? Banks are risk averse and are required by law to investigate if flags are raised.

Not relevant to this case, but I used (and ditched) Worldpay for similar reasons back in 2002. A customer charged back the purchase of a computer which he claimed had never been delivered, despite evidence from the Courier. There were emails between me and the customer where he's asking for advice for installing hardware, including photos of the computer in his house !! Worldpay allowed the chargeback and months later, when I was still fighting over it, I got a call from someone at Worldpay who had reviewed all the evidence sent and told me 'the chargeback should not have been allowed but it's too late to do anything about it.' Despite months of trying, I never got anything back from them.

Anecdotally, i've spoken to several Worldpay customers who had similar problems.

They are the rogues of the banking fraternity, avoid at all cost, they will withhold payments with BS about investigations etc,
We have the same issue, they sent us an email to verify our account (been with them for years) but it went unnoticed in the spam folder.
Had to send them a passport etc, all out of the blue without any phone call chasing us up.

They have withheld our funds since 2nd of December and say it can take a further 5 business days to verify our account.

I am not worried about them holding our money, but they are withholding all customer refunds as well which is causing us massive problems!

Both of these are your problem not theirs. You can’t blame worldpay for your spam filters. Nor should you expect a phone call.

They send us junk all the time, every other week about lending to us etc.
They sent an email a month ago requesting my passport etc, been with them over 10 years!
Yes my fault I missed it, but why would they not call for something so serious as obviously I did not receive the email they sent! Would not like to do business with you mate ?

I had a PCI verification call from them last week and they did not even mention our account was restricted.

And why does it take so long to verify an account after we send in the information required!

But you did get the email. It was in your junk folder.

If you don’t want all their marketing emails disable them in your account settings.

They told me they can keep my customers money for AT LEAST 120 days pending an investigation, when asked what investigation they have yet to deliver any information, I simply told my customer to perform a chargeback and he is still waiting for his money ! now you ask there is no smoke without fire ? well it all stems from me telling them they are not getting the ridiculous information about my company that they seem to think they can get ! they wanted internal and external photos of my factory, they wanted a FULL supplier and customer list, (this surely goes against GDPR) they wanted 3 years accounts and 6 months books, and 6 years proof of home address, a passport and drivers licence as personal photo evidence, so because I am not giving them this information they get all childish and block my account, had a I of been a little quicker I would have refunded my customer but that option was removed. My customer is a reputable business in Canada we have been doing business for years.

Also here's looking at it from a different angle, exactly what are verifying ? Exactly what reason do we need to give them our id ? and what are their real intentions ? anyone who things its required and is a good idea is really not clear of thinking

It’s all about money laundering regulations. Something in your transactions has triggered a warning flag. If you don’t provide the requested information your money won’t ever be released.

And no I don’t work for them or any other payment provider. But I do deal with a lot of financial institutions around the world and this sort of request is prevalent.

Blimey, I can see why you're fed up, we've used them for years, never had anything like this. Is this something new they've started doing?

I've had a bit of trouble with Barclays asking for various documents (both business and personal), I sent it and they now say my account may have restrictions until I send it - spoke to them and sent it again, still getting messages asking for the same - the world has gone nuts!

Most banks outsource the vetting and validation. No surprises that winning bid was the cheapest. Which means you get minimum wage oiks dealing with your documents. Which is why the process is useless.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but at least you managed to contact Worldpay! About a month ago I noticed an unauthorised debit from them on my UK bank account with NatWest but neither I (nor NatWest) can contact Worldpay. NatWest found me a UK phone number but when I ring it, it's obviously an international number and no-one ever answers. I've also found 2 x online "contact us" forms (which I've submitted 5 times now) but they never respond. And email addresses for them invariably return any emails as rejected.

AFAICT Worldpay are only interested in hearing from you if you're applying to become a merchant. If you've any other reason for contacting them (no matter how urgent or legitimate) they simply don't wanna know.

    Call their new business number!
And as soon as you want to chat with customer services they are not interested ! They are currently still accusing me of owing them circa £1900 which they never transferred to me but held on to it ! I told my customer to push for a chargeback so they got their money

Many thanks guys... the phone number for Worldpay began with 01534 which I've since discovered is located in the Channel Islands (and my mobile phone advises that it'll be charged as an international call). I'm very new here so I don't know if this site allows private messages - but if anyone knows of a UK mainland number for Worldpay (or even better, a reachable email address...) please feel free to PM me - John

So you would just issue a money claim against both Worldpay and the client and you'd win your money back.

Have you ever done this? And if so was it successful?

Apart from NatWest itself (i.e. for deducting my banking charges) there are NO direct debiting authorities on this particular account. NatWest have confirmed this and they've even offered me a refund under some banking guarantee scheme - but they want me to contact Worldpay first to get their side of the story. I finally managed to phone Worldpay this morning and they've asked me to send them details by recorded delivery to an address in Gateshead.

I'm not sure if that's just extending the problem or if there's finally some light at the end of the tunnel.

    Well done for getting through.

Assuming you have an account and one month do no business, how do they get their fees or chargeback/refunds etc?

Signing up for any payment provider normally involves giving them permission to make deductions as well as payments.

Ask NatWest to contact WP. If they admit to paying money without authority, it is their error to investigate, not yours!

Thanks for the suggestions Paul but you're slightly missing the point... in this day and age there's a good chance that this might be some kind of fraud - i.e. somebody else opened an account with Worldpay and gave them my bank details.

Whatever the explanation, when somebody notices suspicious activity involving Worldpay, it really shouldn't be this difficult to bring it to their attention.

    Yes, that fraud is possible.

But you do have a Worldpay account so less likely.

BTW, what does it say on your statements or online portal?

Worldpay have certainly made a DD on my account but as far as I'm aware I've never had any account with them.

The actual debit is in the name of Worldpay and it just says "Initial payment" though since then, NatWest managed to track down a corresponding transaction ID (from Worldpay). That's all the information I know.

I've used worldpay for our card transactions for a few years now, not had anything like this but to be honest, I find them all to be a case now of the lesser of a few evils, including banks. I suppose the more dealings you have with them, the more reliance you have and therefore the more potential problems. I try to encourage our customers to make a bank transfer where possible and avoid using the card payments, but you still need that facility obviously

    We do the same
Give us a bank transfer and if the worse comes to the worst give us your card number and we will put it through our World pay M/A who are over charging us by a feckin mile
