Are you getting this Spam mail?

Probably no connection but this is the only business forum I visit...

They probably got your email address from your website. I used to be nominated for a factoring award every year by one particular magazine and once I had won it (along with hundreds of others) I was expected to buy advertising space. I accepted the "honour" every year but refused to pay for the advertising so they eventually stopped bothering me.

One of my former clients were an 'award winning' retailer. You'd be surprised how many customers were taken in by this nonsense.

Dropped them eventually since this wasn't the only only way in which they were dishonest, not surprisingly.

As others have said this is a common thing. Probably one of the biggest scams going.

Made up awards which they email businesses in their thousands saying they have been nominated and see who bites. If you accept the nomination, guaranteed you WILL win one of the awards and then be invited to spend anything from £300+ to be interviewed and have you picture in their made up magazines and websites

This company holds award ceremonies throughout the UK and across the world, has a regularly updated website featuring amongst other things an interview with the Mayor of Birmingham and other 'business leaders'. The only way I can see that they make money is by presenting awards at functions they hold in various venues.

I think we've all come to expect Spam from various sources but it's normally industry specific not from companies that purport to be championing business, hence me thinking they must have had a leg up, a list of some sort to target the likes of us.

Perhaps but it isn't from UKBF.

I own the domain deathtospam.co.uk and prefix it with the name of each forum so I know that if I start receiving emails addressed to ukbf @ deathtospam.co.uk I know where they have obtained the address from

I opened this thread a year ago, but the timing couldn't be better - as I received an email last week to say I can participate again.

I replied this time with a single word reply...'LOL'

On the subject of Spam I've had 2 emails from a Post Graduate doing a Masters Degree in Cyber Security at the University of Warwick, requesting assistance by completing a survey and including the statement that they are GDPR Compliant! :)
