Don't use anyone who offers low costs hosting and a site builder if you want your business website to be a success.

Which means avoid GoDaddy

No ecpmmerce although we may need it in the future.
Another good reason not to use GoDaddy.

Think of the website as an investment in your business, spending a little more on decent hosting and proper website means you have got a strong base on which to build.

If you want to know the support guys by name at Godaddy, know the tech support team by name, know when they finish work and call them 10 times a day go ahead.

Using Godaddy is like using a plaster to heal a broken leg...

Use a UK based web host so you get reliable hosting and UK based support, also use a developer or even just WordPress to build the site, using a web builder will be damaging to your business from the go.

So that didn't really answer the OPs question as he was specifically asking about hosting.

And why are you using GD for webmail when your UK host provides this as part of the package?

I've got a server with OpenMind - rock solid hosting but probably a bit too hich spec for what you want.

Vidahost get good reviews and I've got a number of happy clients using their cloud hosting. I'm sure others will be along soon with their recommendations.

Dont use GoDaddy, 1and1 or 123-Reg - Ive used them all - and they are all really bad, Ive also used HostWay - they were marginally better - but still terrible. I offer hosting through a 3rd party - PM me if you are interested - great support, 24/7 monitoring etc and the usual 99.99% uptime

I use GD for Domain Purchases and was hosting with Hostgator for a long time - no issues there but recently migrated to a company in USA called inmotionhosting only because their magento software is upto date as against Hostgator. Excellent service so far. They even migrated 25 sites hosted by me as a reseller without charge.

From my past experiences I'd be happy recommend eUKhost. I've also heard very good things abour Heart Internet. Very helpful and 24/7 Live Chat help so you can solve problems at any time! What type of website are you looking at building?

It all depends what you are after and what you want the website to do. Personally I just use GoDaddy to buy domain names and thats it, as I have my own dedicated servers, but as for shared hosting, I have heard mixed reviews over the years.

If you are only going to have a couple of static pages and email, then I suppose there would be no issue here. GoDaddy are much like Heart Internet, although Heart Internet's support seems to be better than GoDaddys.

For building a website, find someone you like and trust, who can demonstrate they've achieved good things for others in your field. If you're budget is limited, keep it simple. But a simple website with gravitas, designed by someone who knows what they're doing, is infinitely preferable to a sprawling attempt at complexity on a self build platform like Wix.

For hosting, I recommend http://wpengine.com/ for WP sites. Not the cheapest but they're exceptionally good. Heart is decent but they're let down by the lack of phone support.

Is there any sort of comparison site for such services?

If not please build one

It is needed, I have 20 sites with one.com and have had 1 hour on their stupid chat function trying to find out what i paid for *I know i paid 60quid last week for domains but not what they were (The receipt i got did not show any domain info!) just paid.. wtf how stupid is that 1 fkn hour speaking to these dumbasses, i am leaving them.

How about people rank the hosts the have had in order?

I have pretty much always used one.com or not been involved so cannot offer a comparison but interested to see an order of merit from those who have.
