Not in the same area as you, but we did use a leads service in IT area. Wasn't very impressed with the company, so stopped using them.

Might be completely different in your sector though.

What did you mean with regards the company?..Duff leads?. Not qualified etc?.

The sector I am going to try is Solar PV/renewables.

One company we found that the info provided wasn't that acurate, the next company we tried was just a nightmare from start to finish.

With IT however, we tended to find that the people that used them simply wanted to find the cheapest price. Which might sound fair enough, but for a service based industry you get what you pay for. However if there are decent companies in your sector it may work.

Hi Will

We have tried several of these companies out and have stopped using them for the following reasons:

  • Poorly qualified, even though they call them to 're-qualify'
  • Leads were either tiny with no budget or enormous and too big for us
  • The information was poor about what the actual requirement was.
  • When we made contact with the enquirer, a lot of the time they didnt actually have a real need or were suprised we were even calling them
  • We were unable to specify locations/sectors that were relevant to us
  • We asked for refunds for a lot of them
Some companies let you check the lead out before you buy, some dont. Some let you buy individual leads, some you have to buy credit.
Some make you sign up for x period, some dont.
Some make you send an intro email before releasing the contact details

It just didnt work for us, so we have reverted to generating business in a way we know works best, our own telemarketing.

We also use FreeIndex which gets a lot of traffic. They have a relatively new leads service which is all free. :)

If you do consider using one of these companies and they promise you the earth, ask them for a free trial to see if they put their money where their mouth is.

Good luck with it.

However watch out with the free trials, as they sometimes won't restrict the leads that you get - so you will get all the leads, not just for your area for example. Then if you continue to use the service, they will bill you for these leads!

I've used a few in my time, I own a solar Panel installation company.

I used to use a company called Price Engines but found them very expensive and the fact that they used to send any old 'crap' through to me and charge me for the privilege annoyed me.

I know use a company called service magic, You buy credits up front, they send you an email to say you have new work requests pending- you can check it out, they give you basic details on what the customer is looking for and you can then decide if you want to purchase the lead.

Works for me:)

We are a Conservatory Installation company, we use lead generators for the majority of our business at this time.

On the whole the five generators we use supply us with well qualified leads, sure you get the odd one that will not even let you arrange a visit to find out their specific requirements, but i feel this is not always the fault of the generators but more the general public clicking on this and that then filling in their details.

Depends on management in both companies involved. If your company does not know internet marketing and can't set out exact requirements then you will likely get spam garbage. CPA can be a great source of leads if done correctly.
