Hello there,

Just signed up although I have been coming on this forum sometime now but have only registered. It seems everyone is so friendly and helpful so I thought I'll post and see what happens..... :)

Anyway, i haven't actually started my business yet but still on the research stage hopefully will get there soon.

Out of interest if lets say you're approach by a company asking you to join them on this loyalty/discount scheme....where you provide their members with some discounts/offers and of course only exclusive to them - how much would you expect them to charge you to join. I know some charge and some don't. What factor and benefits would you be looking for from the scheme?

I would expect to be not charged anything. If we are to supply a service (discount) to a club/organisation, I believe we have 'paid our dues' by virtue of the discount. Of course the organisation will profess that they're giving us business, but I profess what value business if we're the 'wholesaling' the product?

I have recently been contacted by a member organisation pledging (but not promising!) extra contracts if I join their membership base. The cost is £245. They would not accept my proposal that I pay the £245 at the end of the 12 mths after I've had the benefit of their referrals. Enough said!

Of course we would all be prepared to pay a nominal fee if we KNEW there would be a major financial benefit - and that's what it's all about!

I understand what you're saying Nigel. So if the suppliers don't get charged, does that mean the membership are sold to consumers at cost. How about instead of charging one and not the other - split the cost. E.g the suppliers are charged a low entry fee - say £10 per year, and the membership to consumers is £8 per year.

I have come across one club where they charge suppliers around £99 per year plus also sell the membership to consumers around £100.

Any advice or info on this type of venture would be greatly appreciated. Has anyone here done this kind of business before?

I agree with Nigel ( I always seem to be agreeing with Nigel!).

I wouldn't pay.

Look at it this way - if you are putting the offer to suppliers and it's free, not many will say no.

So you then have a wide range of suppliers offering discounts to your members. Members are more likley to join. Remember, the member can *decide* to take advantage of thir membership and perhaps earn back their subscription fee with one discounted purchase from a supplier. The supplier can't *decide* to recieve a sale to recoup their costs.

Even at £10 I'd need a fair bit of persuading.

Don't make any false promises to suppliers - let them know you are just starting this thing and don't yet have any members.
