Hi all.
This has probably been covered somewhere here; but I cannot find what I need to know.
Firstly, I am currently PAYE 40hpw and have been for just over a year (yes, I now have a proper job with an employer!).

Secondly, I have had a very small but regular income generated via eBay and proceeds goes into Paypal (usually breaks even) since 2010 which I operate as a part time thing as and when I have had time kinda thing.
Within the past six years, before the current PAYE job, I have had three different Limited companies pretty much in succession, each one suffered demise within a couple of years or so, for one reason or another including a divorce and then other personal issues which prevented me from working properly.

Thirdly, I am maybe not good with the paperwork side of things and in a bit of a state at the moment.

So. . . what I really really need is some kind of PC desktop software so that I can sit at my desk and input the past five years worth of business related paperwork generated via invoices and expenses on behalf of various Ltd company stuff, and also input the past five years worth of paperwork for eBay sales and purchases as well as everything in and out of a Paypal account, a business account and a personal account for the same lengthy period..

This is NOT an optional course of evening entertainment, this is my ONLY option to avoid a custodial term.

I require to generate a complete set of accounts covering everything in order to prove to HMRC that I have not and have never earned what they have estimated that I have earned over the years.

I simply cannot afford to take ten boxes of paperwork to an accountant and expect a magic wand to fix it.

My only option here is to compile a full and comprehensive set of accounts myself.

I appreciate the learning curve will be painful, but I'm good on a pc so no issues there, but my internet bandwidth is not too good so needs to be a PC desktop software installation.

So to summarise; what is my best accounting software solution to fulfill the above please?

Regards in advance for any advice.

Yes, self employed (eBayer?!) this past year since starting a proper job as an employee of someone else's company!
Previously I done eBay as part and parcel of running a limited company and it was simply a means of creating extra income with a view to creating an online empire as well as having a bricks and mortar business. (didn't quite go to plan!).

The accounting software's I see mentioned everywhere here appear to have various drawbacks which prevent any of them being a 'one size fits all' kinda package that would suit a Ltd company as well as self employed along with eBay, paypal etc.

I am actually praying to hear from someone that trades much like I used to and may have first hand advice as to the best way to compile my accounts with so many variables !

Thanks for that link too, great stuff..

Regards

Hi.
Yes two were previously dissolved timeously but the last one traded from say 2013 to 2015 and upon dissolving all was going fine until about 4 months later when HMRC decided to force company to remain active and it still is, I am currently literally at the last straw with an HMRC tax enquiry and now I have an estimated vat liability bill too which is simply unbelievable considering only one previous company was vat registered but no way did I incur a vat debt as they claim.. hence vital importance of getting my previous accounting method into an organized fashion..

Regards.
