ACCA Open Learning

Well I am currently looking at doing the above course but am trying to see if there are any recomendations by who to use for the open learning.

I am currently 24 years old and working in an accountancy practise as a Mortgage Broker (CeMAP qualified & CF1, CF2, CF3, CF4) but I really feel this would be more suited to me as a person.

Can any one recomend a good web-site/company who will offer this course and what I should/shouldn't take regarding the extra's availble on the course (IE basic price I have found is around £180per paper or £300per paper which includes the extra's.

Any help would be great.

Most (at least the basic) ACCA home study packages are based around a text book, with a study plan and question papers/mock exams to submit at particular times. They also usually included a revision book containing plenty of question practice and some revision cards. I've used BPP, FTC and Premier Training when I did AAT (over 4 years ago) and found FTC's (now Kaplan) customer service much better. Also, Kaplan's home study packs can include their course notes which are used on the classroom courses and are condensed versions of the text books.

Since ACCA home study is based around the text book, you might want to take a look at the BPP and Kaplan books in your local bookstore to see which you prefer. Also, some students don’t bother with a home study pack and just buy the books and study from those on their own – most of the content of home study packs can be purchased separately. You might want to look on EBay to see if you can obtain (new or used) copies of the BPP course notes. I did CIMA virtually all by attendance courses, mainly with BPP and the course notes were actually more valuable than the texts. A tutor on one of the courses actually advised a student not to use the text books for additional support as they were too "heavy" in their content, instead recommending contacting the centre for any additional support.
As for the courses with “extras”, I assume you mean additional resources on-line or on CD-Rom? I myself (but that’s just me) never really found these of much extra help as the texts were still the main study resource, though the audio CD’s can be useful for revision in the car!
