The HP Microserver has £100.00 cash back from HP until the end of March. So purchasing something like this http://www.ebuyer.com/product/237003 would be less that £80.00 after cash back. Admittedly you need to buy disk separately and it doesn't come with an O/S but will run Windows Foundation edition, Linux, and even VMware ESXi!!! And it supports RAID 0 and 1, up to 8GB of memory, and 4 x SATA disks.

I havent used one of these in anger yet but I'm sure it won;t be long. I still like to see a big heavy box in a darkened room somewhere though :)

Yes I agree. And one with flashing lights as well...

If you were looking for a cheap server you would probalby be better with a HP ML110 these can be got for £150 but are good enough for running Win SBS2008 and have raid. I would expect a lot of businesses to outgrow the microserver quite quickly.

Interestingly the Microserver has the same memory capacity as the ML110 (8GB) and actually accommodates more SATA drives as standard (4 in the Microserver against only 2 supported by the internal SATA RAID controller on the ML110). Admittedly their are more CPU options in the ML110.
