Hi,


Thanks for taking the time to read my post. I would like to know who is or who has managed to solve the issue with controlling stock. When we do a stock take its taking about 4 people 3 days to get an accurate (ish) figure. We would like to use software and hardware to make this easier and enable us to carry out more stock takes.

We currently use
We use sage 50 pro and have clover as our EPOs system to manage our clothing and accessories business.

Hi, What is it that you are counting? I know when I have had to do stock takes, we did them weekly and three people could check a small warehouse ina morning. We were counting food stock and we counted it a cases and units. It sounds like you have a lot on stock to count, so maybe if it caould be broken down in to smaller sections, and if you have the staff put someone in charge of keeping it neat and in order. Always delegate where you can

we are counting clothing and accessories as well as large amounts of small items. Everything is loose which makes the job a bit slower and on our shop floor.

I had hoped to find a portable scanner than might allow us to scan stock and account inventory?

We do rolling stock takes every week- take a small number of lines and stock take those. I don't think you can beat a physical and visual stock take as it can also be used as a proper quality check so we don't use any gadgets anymore although we used to use a reader. Over a period of 6 weeks we have done everything. We don't do stock takes from November to January as we are too busy but the system we have means we can pinpoint any issues very quickly and control our stock beautifully. I reckon this has saved us thousands in only stocking what we actually need and we have very little stock just "warming the shelves". Never let your staff do their own stocktaking without a checking system.

Thank you for your input Mhall, I think you might be right. It would just be great if there was. At the moment we have got a floor plan of the shop that we map where we have done the stock take.

we have found a bit of human error with this but its the best process so far.

Does clover not offer a hand held scanner built in with the pad that you can use

I saw one in a restaurant the other day and they were not using the scanner part

You then do rolling stock takes and are away

If you are unsure on scanners it is a learning curve - but you start somewhere - just buy one on ebay

The scanner your talking about looks good and we have one but its not as good as it looks!

I was stunned how cheap they were - compared with when I bought a play one
Also cheap but not a fraction as clever

We gradually climbed up on price and have ended up paying top dollar for what we use because they scan so much better and when busy that adds up

But all you need to start with anything and then you will go ah

It is not hard to do that first bit
