3D secure set up but not triggered at checkout

Hi there - setting up online shop using WooCommerce. Payment Gateway is Stripe. Everything seems to be set up okay (confirmed by both providers) but the 3DSecure functionality is not being triggered. A colleague says she is asked to input her 3D Secure details for every purchase but this doesnt happen on our website.

Woocommerce say everything is set up correctly and to speak to the other party - Stripe say exactly the same.

Does 3D always appear? ( as my colleague says) or are there occasions when it isnt required?

I rarely get asked to go through 3D secure when buying on-line. I think it depends on the perceived risk of the purchaser, the vendor and transaction value.

On the other hand, with the previous system (verified by Visa, etc), my card would be blocked when I used a retailer who I had purchased from previously.

From an integration point of view if both are saying it is working then it should be appearing for Visa and MasterCard transactions where the card issuing bank is registered to the schemes, even if it doesn't ask for a password/passcode (i.e. the risk assessment is performed without it). It won't appear for alternative payment methods so if you have API's for Apple Pay for example. Have you tested the site yourself using your own card/s?
