123reg - had enough of them!

I've used 123reg for about 10 years - just for domain registration/forwarding, and email forwarding. I've got about 10 domains.

In the past few months they've been moving to a new system, and their emails about this weren't easy to understand (I'm a software developer) so I thought didn't apply to me.
Then, my catch-all email forwarders stopped working - I found out after a few days by accident. This took 2 weeks to sort out with their support, and I had to upgrade a few of them to Gen 2 mailboxes to keep catch-all. I changed the rest to exact email names (mail@ admin@ etc.)
Now, their domain forwarding is only going to work on Gen 2 mailboxes so I have to upgrade the rest of them.

I want to stop using them as I'm not happy with they've communicated these updates, and their support is not very good (IMO).

As I've only every used 123reg what I don't know is if all domain registrars work in the same way. I was thinking of going to someone else (e.g. godaddy.com) but don't know if it's worth the hassle and money of moving all the domains across.

Any suggestions?

I think they are moving to the godaddy system

I'm afraid this is the consequence of an engineering company not paying enough attention to the user experience and (presumably) not employing people whose job it is to ensure the experience is right. I can't directly help but suggest you look for companies with reviews that mention good customer service and user experience. Apols if that's already what you're saying.

The only emails I get from 123reg are reminders when domains are about to expire. Not had anything about a new system. Maybe it’s because the only things I use them for is domain registration. No hosting, emails or forwarding.

If you go to migrate a domain away you will see the process is different depending upon how long it has been there and therefore which control panel you have (pre or post Aug23)

That's all I use them for, but they are slowly migrating to the godaddy system

What is the godaddy system? I see a new control panel but it does pretty much what it already did.

When (if) you get migrated to the new system, you will see it is exactly the same as the godaddy domain system
Ok. But as I’ve got no idea what the godaddy domain system is I still won’t know

The OP was saying he doesn't like a change that 123-reg had made and was asking about moving to godaddy.

I was just pointing out that the changes they are making are effectively migrating to the godaddy system.

He may find the things he doesn't like will be the same if he moves to godaddy.

Start using CloudFlare for all domains. Just use 123-reg or another provider like Dynadot to point the nameservers to CloudFlare and manage all DNS settings in there.

But that won't solve your email problem. For that you need to start using a proper email provider like Google or Microsoft.

Paul.
