I sometimes get petition notices and one I saw today was from a young nurse who purchased an item online. The lady missed the delivery so it was given to a neighbour. On the parcel was her telephone number and since the lady retrieved the parcel she was subjected to sexually explicit messages from the neighbour. She set up a petition to stop companies from putting phone numbers on parcels.

If I send a parcel, the invoice with email and telephone details are inside with a bar code label on top with the name and address. Some invoices allow for the email and telephone number to be visible when folded and secured in a transparent envelope.

Under normal circumstances it is information that could unite a parcel and customer. Should these template invoices be changed to remove the telephone number and email address from being visible?

For those who can remember I'm Sorry I haven't a Clue on Radio 4, there was a game called 'Name that Barcode!' - Thick Black, Thin White, Thin Black, Thick White, Thick Black, Thin White . . . . .

We add the recipients phone number when booking Parcelforce deliveries so they receive SMS Texts for tracking. That number could be seen at many stages in the process but I guess if the driver has access to it on his machine there's no need for it to be displayed in full on the parcel.
