Supplementary E-Com Platforms for Independent Artisans to Boost Revenue

Hi everyone,

I have a Shopify store that currently sells high-quality salt & pepper mills, made here in the UK. A friend told me about a website called Choosie - Chosie is essentially a network of independent shops, all located conveniently on one website. They have a very fair fee structure @ 6% of sales.

This got me thinking and I wonder if anyone on here knows of any other similar websites? I'd love to list my products for sale on as many online stores as possible, as I'm sure a lot of other people in this forum would.

I am aware of amazons new service handmade which only has a 15% fee structure compared to their normal rate of 30%. I haven't read their full T&C's but I doubt I qualify for that service as although I'm an independent, my offering is not strictly handmade.

Plus, I am also aware of market places like Etsy, Not on the Highstreet, Amazon, eBay etc. All of which (in my opinion) charge quite a significant commission.

I'd love to hear any positive experiences from people that have tried any of these types of services and had any success?

Wasn't aware amazon had a 30% rate - only been selling there 20 years.
Certainly don't recall ever paying that high for selling. Then again my jewellery didn't get listed on there.
15% plus VAT has been the fee I've been charged on probably 150k+ items.

Ebay commission is cheaper than amazon. 11% for crafts, 9% for kitchen. Though you will (well, old style sellers will) pay paypal fees on top of that. You'd pay fees on your own site too.

Most won't be suitable for your work, some may work out pretty well.

Hi Mr D, I apologise, I used an online fee calculator for Amazon a while back and seemed to remember after commission etc the fees worked out at about 30% - I just did that again and you are spot on its about 15%. Which is much better...

Yes onbuy can be good.
Trouble is it's still a relatively small site so often does not have what people want.
Frustrating to buyers. Frustrating to sellers.
And the catalogue has some mess. Not as bad as Amazon but give it time....
