Parcel missing can I claim more than the £20 basic cover if I didn't specify before?

Hi.

I had 2 parcels sent to me through a third party delivery company, who sent it through hermes.

1 label I had as basic cover of £20, the other I said the value was more so paid more for higher cover.

Sent the labels off to the person sending who accidently put them on the wrong parcel. So sent the higher valued item under the £20 cover, and sent the cheaper item under the higher valued cover.

Now the cheaper item was delivered last week, but the expensive item tracking hasn't been updated for a full week.

I know if I go through the default complaints process with the delivery company they will only cover up to £20, as it is this parcel which is showing as not delivered.

Is there anything I can do in this situation?

You won't know until you speak to them, they may accept it as 1 collection and delivery combined, you never know
Thank you for replying. It was actually two separate collections a day a part, the sender didn't realise I had sent two labels under 1 email. Only sent 1, then sent the other the next day when they realised.

I have checked with the delivery company and I'm almost sure they will only cover £20 if I process a claim. I haven't gone through because the item is worth a lot more.

Then claim the 20 quid if they will cover that. And claim the rest from whoever got the labels wrong.

It wasn't a business. It was somebody who I used to live with had some of my stuff, I was supposed to collect before but couldn't because of lockdown. I don't feel right now asking them to pay for the lost parcel when they were just trying to help me out.

I agree with Jeremy Hawke, you won’t get more than the amount covered, ie £20. They cannot be held accountable for someone else using the wrong label, and insurance from parcel carriers is as useful as chocolate fireguards.

Then no reason to get more than the insured sum.

What do you mean about the insurance? do you mean insurance isn't valid?

You cannot claim anyway its only the sender who made the contract
Im not sure what you mean. Who is the sender? The person who gave the items to the delivery company, or the person who paid and booked it in?

Normally the person who paid and booked it, they are the ones who made the contract. did you do so and just arranged for it to be picked up and delivered to you, or did the other person arrange it all

I paid for it, and sent the labels to somebody else to send it to me. The tracking says collected, and no further update.
